Overview

The Akila 46 Coop represents the flagship model in Akila's new coop range, blending the elevated feel of a yacht with the agility and efficiency of a sport boat. Designed for comfortable cruising in diverse environments such as The Bahamas, the Great Lakes, or the Great Loop, this catamaran offers spacious accommodations and thoughtful features aimed at enhancing both comfort and performance.

Exterior Design and Deck Features

The 46 Coop's catamaran design provides substantial beam forward, creating ample space on the bow for guest entertainment. The bow seating area is equipped with plush, beautifully stitched cushions, flip-down armrests, and integrated storage beneath the seats. Four cleats are strategically placed for versatile docking options. A notable feature is the liftable table positioned just below the forward grab rail, ideal for enjoying sunsets or socializing. Throughout the bow compartment, padding ensures guest comfort, while wireless induction chargers, Fusion audio speakers, grab handles, and cup holders are conveniently integrated. The deck includes a hatch with additional storage beneath, and magnetic doors provide secure closure for the cabin entrance. The walk-around cabin top features grab handles and steps for easy access, while side boarding doors on both port and starboard sides facilitate convenient dock access. Safety is enhanced by a transom gate to prevent accidental overboard falls. The expansive 17-foot 11-inch beam allows for a wide swim platform aft, complemented by reversible loungers with storage underneath. The swim ladder is thoughtfully designed with large treads and multiple grab points to ensure safe and comfortable water access.

Interior Living Spaces

Inside the cabin, the helm station is located starboard, featuring advanced controls and a foil system between the hulls that contribute to the boat's efficiency. The galley on the port side benefits from large windows that flood the space with natural light and provide excellent visibility. It offers generous countertop space, a two-burner induction cooktop, a fridge/freezer combo, three drawers, dedicated trash storage, and a deep sink with overhead cabinetry. Clever design elements include a corner lazy Susan and an integrated grab rail beneath the countertop for safety. Opposite the galley, the salon features a high-low table surrounded by ample seating, cup holders, wireless induction chargers, and controls for the Fusion audio system, air conditioning, and lighting. The glass enclosure surrounding the salon can be fully retracted, seamlessly connecting the interior space with the cockpit. A drop-down TV is discreetly stowed overhead, ideal for entertainment. The cockpit includes a wet bar with three bar stools, shore power hookups, storage compartments, and controls for an electric sunshade integrated into the hardtop. A Kenyon grill with a dedicated cover and built-in lighting enhances outdoor cooking capabilities, accompanied by an additional fridge/freezer and workspace.

Power and Performance

The 46 Coop is powered by twin 600-horsepower Mercury engines. The design benefits from the absence of turning cowlings, allowing for a wider swim platform without sacrificing space. The boat incorporates a foil between the hulls, which significantly improves efficiency and smoothness underway. A rear-facing camera provides enhanced visibility when maneuvering, and the helm station is equipped with comprehensive controls to manage the vessel's advanced systems.

Private Accommodations

This two-cabin catamaran features a master stateroom on the starboard side and a guest cabin on the port side, both offering privacy with lockable doors. The port cabin is accessed via four steps and includes a hanging closet with soft-close drawers, a spacious head with a large shower, electric flush toilet, vessel sink, overhead cabinets, and a full side window for natural light. The berth is elevated with ample headroom, shelving, and substantial storage drawers beneath. The master cabin offers additional storage with a large closet and cabinetry, a fully enclosed standup shower, and a similarly equipped head. The berth is positioned to provide panoramic views through a large hull-side window, with bedside induction chargers, USB ports, 110V outlets, reading lights, elegant upholstery with accent lighting, and extensive storage drawers beneath and alongside the berth.

Conclusion

The Akila 46 Coop combines innovative design, spacious accommodations, and advanced performance features to deliver a versatile and comfortable cruising experience. Its thoughtful layout, quality finishes, and efficient powertrain make it well-suited for extended voyages or leisurely coastal cruising. The integration of indoor and outdoor living spaces, along with safety and convenience features, reflects a comprehensive approach to modern catamaran design.
