Of the 2,000 Albin 25s built, many are still doing sterling service. The Albin 25 was built in Kristinehamn, a small town on the shores of Lake Vänern in south-eastern Sweden. Between 1968 and about 1981 Albin Marin built over 2,000 of the 25s. For most of those years there was a wholly British-owned subsidiary, Albin UK, based on the Hamble and as a result some 200-300 25s were brought into the UK, making it one of the most popular imported motor cruisers. A number were bought by the Highlands and Islands Development Board for hire operations. The boat was available in both motor cruiser and motor sailor versions.

This 1970 Albin 25 can almost be classified as a mini or “pocket” trawler and has been regarded as a comfortable, rugged, and seaworthy vessel that can be single handled or loaded with family and friends.  Her flared bow transitions down to a deep skeg allow her to cut into the water providing a dry, comfortable cruise.

Experience the indoor outdoor qualities of this vessel with her unique fore and aft cabins with sleeping accommodations for four. The centre pilothouse amidships can be fully enclosed or open by unrolling the canvas top. The small galley provides enough room to prepare meals and refreshments, and offers ample storage. When the winds are available, turn the engine off, hoist the sails and enjoy the peace and tranquility of powerless cruising. The skeg keel and large rudder aft of the prop make her easy to manuever at slow speeds.

This is perhaps the only Albin 25 currently available for sale on the entire Chesapeake and a quick search on the internet will put you touch with several Albin owners forums. You can really only gain appreciation for her by seeing her up close and in person…and bring your offers!

Cons

Limited Speed Under Sail: The motorsailor design means it may not perform as fast or efficiently under sail alone compared to dedicated sailboats.

Aging Components: As a 1970 model, some parts and systems may require updating or maintenance to ensure reliability.

Space Constraints: While comfortable for short trips, the interior space is modest and might feel cramped for extended voyages or larger crews.

Engine Maintenance: The inboard engine, while a benefit, also adds maintenance demands and potential mechanical issues typical of older marine engines.

Limited Modern Amenities: Lacks some of the modern conveniences found on newer sailboats, such as advanced navigation systems or contemporary interior fittings.
