Layout

The lounge is a totally “living” area, in which 4 different environments can be fully lived. Entering on the right you can find a sofa, suitable for 6 persons, and the table that can be extended: by adding some chairs, several people can comfortably have dinner. On the left, the kitchen, a shiny lacquered “dove-color “open space” with a wide working place made of Corian with marble nuances. This area is provided with a large fridge of good 258 litres, of which 42 litres are dedicated to the freezer, while plates, glasses, cups and cutlery are housed in special drawers and furniture, giving the feeling of order and practicable to the kitchen.

A pyroceram hob and a microwave oven are also present, while the shipowner can choose whether to install the optional dishwasher. Moving towards bow, on the right, you can find the distinctive and ergonomic Absolute steering position: anything from the instruments to the technological materials is designed to offer safe and effective steering of the boat. All is combined with an armchair dedicated to the pilot and copilot, that enriches the steering position, also in combination with the wide side French door for easy access directly to the side passage, similar to the Absolute 72 FLY, units of the higher category. Bow on the left side of the lounge you can seat on a comfortable sofa to spend relaxing evenings or to share the emotion of sailing.

Boat Test Review on BoatTest.com

Overview

The Absolute 50 Fly is an Italian-designed cruising yacht that combines comfortable accommodations with ease of operation, largely enabled by its pod drive propulsion system. Measuring just under 50 feet in length with a beam of 14 feet 6 inches, this yacht offers a balanced blend of performance, handling, and stylish design. The test vessel was evaluated with twin 435 horsepower Volvo Penta IPS 600 engines, providing a modern and efficient powertrain.

Exterior Design and Deck Features

The yacht's exterior profile is enhanced by a sleek radar arch positioned at eye level, which contributes to a lower bridge clearance but requires the operator to stand or duck to see aft. The cockpit is well-equipped with practical features including heavy-duty stainless steel cleats with chafing gear and rollers, warping winches on both sides, and convenient storage compartments beneath the cockpit seating for fenders and life rafts. Forward, the anchor system consists of a polished plow anchor with a stainless steel roller and a quick windlass, complemented by cleats positioned atop tow rails to prevent chafing. Shore power cords for air conditioning and main services are neatly stored on cord reels near the stair risers, with electrical switches conveniently located above.

Helm and Bridge Layout

The lower helm station features a soft-touch carbon fiber dash with two 15-inch touchscreen displays, a 7-inch Volvo Penta EVC display, and an array of rocker switches controlling batteries, ignition, wipers, windlass, and alarms. The leather-wrapped steering wheel is mounted on a tilt base, and controls include a joystick for the bow thruster, trim tabs with LED indicators, and digital throttles for the IPS pods. Visibility is excellent through large windows, and a side door provides direct access to the side deck and midship cleat, facilitating single-handed docking. The double-wide helm seat is adjustable fore and aft with a flip-up bolster and a comfortable footrest. On the flying bridge, the helm is starboard-mounted with a 16-inch touchscreen, Volvo Penta EVC display, and integrated alarm systems. The bridge helm includes similar controls to the lower station, with additional features such as a Fusion stereo system, beverage holders, and dual adjustable seats with diamond-pattern stitching and flip-up bolsters. Storage compartments for display covers are conveniently located forward of the helm.

Power and Performance

Powered by twin Volvo Penta IPS 600 engines rated at 435 horsepower each, the Absolute 50 Fly demonstrated strong performance during testing. With an estimated test weight of 43,014 pounds, including 80% fuel and two people aboard, the yacht reached a top speed of 26.7 knots at 3,600 RPM. The best cruising speed was slightly lower at 24.7 knots at 3,400 RPM, achieving a fuel burn of 38.4 gallons per hour and a range of approximately 245 nautical miles with a 10% fuel reserve from the total 422-gallon capacity. Acceleration to planning speed occurred in 8.4 seconds, with 20 miles per hour reached in 11 seconds. The yacht handled well in calm conditions, showing no hull slap or spray on deck during transitions. The IPS pods provide slow turning characteristics typical of pod-driven vessels, contributing to smooth and comfortable maneuvering, especially appreciated by guests.

Engine Room and Systems

Accessed via a hatch in the cockpit deck, the engine room houses the twin Volvo Penta IPS 600 engines with integrated pod drives, eliminating the need for jack shafts. Centrally located is the generator, with fuel tanks positioned on both sides forward. The engine room layout allows easy access to batteries, electrical connections, fuel filters, seacocks, hot water heater, and expansion tank. While seacocks are accessible, improved labeling would enhance usability. The engine room hatch is finished with soundproofing, a gasket seal, and stainless steel struts for secure and quiet operation.

Accommodations and Interior Features

The transom provides access to the crew quarters, which include a berth on the starboard side and a wet head, illuminated by three transom windows that allow natural light. Below deck, the main electrical panel is conveniently located at the companionway, featuring clear organization of 24-volt and 220-volt systems, with a cutout for easy access to commonly used battery switches. Fuel fills and water drains are positioned at the start of the side decks, designed to discharge overboard efficiently.

Conclusion

The Absolute 50 Fly impresses with its combination of comfort, ergonomic design, and quiet, solid construction. Its pod drive propulsion offers ease of handling both underway and during docking maneuvers, supported by thoughtful deck and helm features. The yacht’s refined engineering and attention to detail result in a vessel that delivers a comfortable and confident cruising experience. Overall, the 50 Fly stands out as a well-rounded cruiser that makes a distinctive impression on the water.
