Monterey always packs a lot of features into their sport cruisers, and the Monterey 282 has everything a family needs to enjoy a long weekend afloat. This one makes it even easier to explore with it's INCLUDED tri axle Loadmaster trailer!
Built on a deep-V hull with a wide 10-foot beam, the 282 is a comfortable boat below and her floorplan- with its booth-style dinette-is very different from most midsize cruisers.
There is a full galley and the big dinette is both functional and very innovative in design. The head is also very large and comes with a hinged seat over the toilet, which makes changing clothes (or taking a shower) very comfortable. An athwartships (sideways across the vessel) double berth is forward, and twin settees in the midcabin convert into a large double berth. (Note that the dinette can also be converted into a berth for a couple of kids.)
Above deck, the cockpit is arranged with an aft-facing seat behind the double helm, wet bar with storage to port, and a removable rear seat. A transom door opens to a big swim platform where dock lines and fenders can be stored in a transom box.
A great ride with your hair blowing in the wind is provided by the twin 220hp MerCruiser 4.3L sterndrives.

Monterey 282 Cruiser: BoatTEST Review
Overview
The Monterey 282 Cruiser is the smallest wide-beam model in Monterey's cruiser lineup, designed to offer versatile functionality in a compact package. At just under 28 feet, this model incorporates many features typically found in larger cruisers, making it a well-rounded boat suitable for entertaining, sleeping, and cooking. Its efficient use of space has made it a popular choice among consumers seeking a multi-purpose cruiser.
Exterior Design and Deck Layout
The 282 Cruiser features an optional extended swim platform that adds over two feet to the boat's length, enhancing comfort for swimming and diving activities. The transom includes a neatly integrated storage hatch for lines, fenders, and shore power hookups. The cockpit seating consists of two bench seats with a removable dining table, although this area does not convert into a sun lounge as might be desired. To port, a small wet bar offers ample counter space, a sink, and generous storage beneath. The helm station is thoughtfully designed with two tiers of instrumentation for easy readability and includes a tilt steering column; however, the black steering wheel tends to absorb heat on sunny days. Molded steps at the bridge provide safe access to the foredeck, where the bow sun pad and anchor windlass are located.
Interior Living Spaces
Below deck, the upper deck folds down to reveal a dining area within the V-berth, equipped with a sink, cooktop, microwave, and a concealed television with VCR. The interior layout maximizes comfort and functionality, providing a spacious aft cabin for overnight guests. The starboard-side head includes a flush toilet, vanity with sink, and a shower. Notably, the shower area features a seat positioned above the toilet for added bathing comfort.
Power and Performance
With the optional extended swim platform installed, the Monterey 282 Cruiser measures 30 feet, 10 inches in length and has a beam of 10 feet. The hull features a 19-degree dead rise and the boat weighs over 10,000 pounds. Powered by twin stern drives, the 282 achieves impressive speeds, reaching over 47 miles per hour at 4,800 RPM and up to 68 miles per hour at 4,600 feet.
Conclusion
The Monterey 282 Cruiser successfully blends the spaciousness and amenities of larger cruisers into a compact, wide-beam design. Its thoughtful layout, both above and below deck, combined with strong performance figures, make it a versatile and appealing option for boaters seeking a multi-functional cruiser under 30 feet.
