The Hunter 38 replaces the popular 386, the last of which rolled out of the Florida plant May 27, 2004 following a highly successful seven year run. Hunter's famed designer and racer Glenn Henderson returned to the drawing board with one focus in mind. "Our goal was to design a boat that was an exceptionally comfortable cruiser, yet offered outstanding performance and easy handling," said Henderson. "Our new 38 has met -- and exceeds -- expectations."

Good Performance: With its moderate displacement and efficient sail plan, the Hunter 38 performs well under a variety of wind conditions. It is easy to handle, making it suitable for both new and experienced sailors.
Low Maintenance: Built with quality materials, the Hunter 38 requires less ongoing maintenance compared to many other models in its class. Its durable construction is designed to withstand the rigors of coastal cruising.

Modern Amenities: Equipped with features such as a functional galley, ample storage, and modern navigation technology, the Hunter 38 ensures a convenient and enjoyable sailing experience.
Cons
Limited Speed: While the Hunter 38 offers good performance, some sailors may find it isn't the fastest cruiser in its class. Those looking for competitive racing performance might seek alternatives.
Weight Distribution: The design incorporates a relatively heavier keel, which contributes to stability but can feel sluggish in lighter winds. This might not appeal to all sailors, particularly those who prefer a more agile boat.
Interior Aesthetics: While functional, some may find the interior finishes less luxurious than those of competitor models. The design emphasis is more on practicality than opulence.
Cost of Upgrades: Depending on usage and wear, potential buyers may need to budget for upgrades or replacements of electronics and sails to meet personal preferences or modern standards.
Limited Tiller Steering: The 2005 Hunter 38 typically features wheel steering, which some experienced sailors might prefer to convert to a tiller for a more direct feel, but this may involve additional modifications.
