Overview

The Galleon 325 GTO is a new bow rider model that introduces outboard power to the Galleon lineup while maintaining the brand's hallmark fit, finish, and build quality. This model is the first in a planned four-boat series called the Grand Touring Outboard (GTO) series, representing a fresh approach for Galleon with outboard propulsion.

Exterior Design and Operational Features

The 325 GTO is equipped with twin 350 horsepower Mercury Verado outboard engines, featuring joystick piloting for outboards (JPO) to enhance maneuverability. A full-width service platform ahead of the engines allows easy access for maintenance and tilting the engines out of the water via a simple latch system. The platform can be moved forward completely to keep the engines out of the water when docked. The cockpit deck includes a centrally located hatch providing access to a mechanical room housing key components such as battery boxes, fuel and water tanks, and a 4kW diesel generator with its own fuel supply. The bow features two hatches leading to a through-the-stem anchor roller fitted with a delta plow anchor; one hatch conceals foot control switches, while the other provides access to a quick windlass. The boat is outfitted with eight oversized pull-up cleats, including a strategically placed cleat next to the helm to facilitate easy short-handed or single-handed docking operations.

Helm and Bridge Features

The helm station is designed with a soft-touch dash and includes a centrally mounted compass that is offset from the helm line. Twin multifunction displays sit below, complemented by a nine-inch VesselView display to the right. Controls include a joystick piloting system and digital throttle and shift on the right sub-panel, with an inductive charging pad and manual connectivity options on the left. The helm seats are wrap-around bucket style with flip-up bolsters, electrically adjustable fore and aft as well as vertically, and include flip-down footrests for added comfort. A thoughtfully designed cubby near the helm provides convenient storage for chart books. The antenna array on the hardtop is collapsible, allowing the boat's bridge clearance to be reduced when necessary.

Dimensions and Mechanical Layout

The Galleon 325 GTO measures 32 feet 9 inches in length overall with a beam of 10 feet 11 inches. The boat's empty weight is approximately 14,200 pounds. For testing purposes, with half fuel and three people aboard, the estimated test weight was 15,480 pounds. The main electrical panel, including four battery switches, is located below deck to the port side of the companionway.

Power and Performance

Powered by twin 350 horsepower Mercury Verado engines fitted with 14.6 by 15 Rev-4 propellers, the 325 GTO achieved a top speed of 43.5 miles per hour at 6,200 RPM. Its best cruise speed was 36 miles per hour at 5,500 RPM, where it consumed 39.5 gallons of fuel per hour, yielding approximately 0.9 miles per gallon and an estimated range of 185 statute miles with a 10% fuel reserve from the total 225-gallon capacity. The boat accelerates quickly, coming up on plane in 4.7 seconds, reaching 20 miles per hour in 8.4 seconds, and 30 miles per hour in 14.8 seconds. Handling is responsive and precise, with the boat turning smoothly like it is on rails. Gentle, relaxed turns maintain speed well, while power can be added confidently during tighter turns without significant speed loss. The boat trims efficiently with about five clicks of up trim to achieve optimal running attitude. Visibility from the helm is excellent, thanks to a large single-piece windshield and open sightlines to both sides. Docking is made effortless with the joystick control, allowing precise and gentle maneuvering alongside docks.

Additional Features and Captain’s Highlights

The 325 GTO includes several thoughtful features enhancing the boating experience. Climate control for heating and air conditioning is available at the helm, complemented by a fresh air ventilation system integrated into the hardtop with vents that channel air into the cabin area. The boat’s lighting is notable for its aesthetic appeal, with courtesy lighting that creates a stunning effect at dusk. Captain Steve’s top five favorite features include the introduction of outboard power in the Galleon lineup, the full-width service platform for engine access, an adjustable steering wheel that tilts and moves up and down, a dedicated cell phone cubby with inductive charging, and the boat’s confident handling characteristics, which share the same DNA as larger Galleon models known for their performance in rough conditions.

Conclusion

The Galleon 325 GTO represents a significant evolution for the brand by combining traditional Galleon quality with modern outboard propulsion and advanced handling features. Its performance, comfort, and thoughtful design elements make it a compelling option in the bow rider category. As the first model in a forthcoming four-boat GTO series, it sets a promising precedent for future offerings. Overall, the 325 GTO delivers an engaging and well-rounded boating experience that aligns with Galleon’s reputation for quality and innovation.
