1983 47' Custom Pilothouse Sloop / Express Motorsailer "Irene"
If you've been searching for a unique cruising yacht with character, capability, and liveaboard potential, Irene deserves a closer look. This 1983 47' Custom Pilothouse Sloop was designed as an express motorsailer, combining the comfort and protection of a pilothouse cruiser with the efficiency and versatility of a sailing vessel.
One of her most distinctive features is a variable-draft daggerboard system, electrically operated by a Leeson motor. With the board raised, draft is minimized for exploring shallow anchorages and protected waterways. A bow thruster offers enhanced maneuverability, while she is also reportedly capable of cruising up to 12 knots with the daggerboard raised. Irene offers impressive flexibility for Northwest cruising and beyond.
Power comes from a Isuzu DA102T 6-cylinder inboard diesel engine. She carries approximately 400 gallons of fresh water and 90 gallons of fuel, providing excellent capacity for extended cruising or comfortable dockside living.
The pilothouse is entered from the port aft side and features a comfortable dinette to port and a functional galley to starboard. The galley is equipped with a stainless-steel sink and an LP gas range with oven, gas monitor, and controller. The pilot station is outfitted with a Navico autopilot with remote, Magellan 1200 satellite navigation, Apelco color fish finder/depth sounder, Standard VHF radio, and Raytheon radar.
Forward of the helm is an enclosed head with shower, along with both a companionway berth and a forward V-berth for overnight accommodations.
Irene is a distinctive vessel with tremendous potential. While she could benefit from some TLC and updating, her solid platform, spacious pilothouse layout, large tankage, and unique variable-draft design make her an attractive option for cruisers, adventurers, and anyone seeking an affordable liveaboard with character.
Whether you're looking for a project with a rewarding future or a capable cruising home on the water, Irene offers an opportunity that's hard to duplicate.
