Large hull windows mean the captain can do a quick visual of the surroundings from his or her berth.

The port hull has two cabins and two heads. The aft stateroom has the same low island berth as the master, and a private head with a separate shower stall. The forward cabin has a smaller head/shower combination but also has access to a bow compartment that may be used to stash luggage or extra gear.

  • Easy access to the water maker is located in the storage compartment under the forward Port cabin mattress.
  • The forward portside guest cabin was used for storage and does not have a mattress.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 2017 Lagoon 42 is a popular cruising catamaran known for its blend of comfort, performance, and modern design. Here are some of the key pros and cons to consider:

Pros

Spacious and Comfortable Layout: The Lagoon 42 offers a well-thought-out interior with ample living space, including a large saloon, comfortable cabins, and plenty of storage. Its open-plan design enhances socializing and relaxation on board.

Performance: While not a racing catamaran, the Lagoon 42 provides good sailing performance for a cruising boat, with a balanced helm and responsive handling.

Modern Design: Featuring sleek lines and a contemporary aesthetic, the Lagoon 42 stands out with its stylish exterior and functional deck layout.

Easy Maneuverability: Twin engines and a well-designed helm station make docking and close-quarters maneuvering relatively easy.

Good Build Quality: Lagoon boats are known for their solid construction, and the 2017 model maintains that reputation with durable materials and reliable systems.

Cons

Price Point: As a high-quality cruising catamaran, the Lagoon 42 can be on the expensive side both in terms of initial purchase price and maintenance costs.

Weight: The boat’s sturdy construction and spaciousness come with increased weight, which can limit top-end speed compared to lighter performance-oriented catamarans.

Limited Upwind Performance: While adequate for cruising, the boat may not excel in upwind sailing performance relative to some other designs in its class.

Interior Finish Variability: Some owners have noted that interior finish options and quality can vary depending on the specific build and customization choices.

Made For

Ideal for families, couples, or groups of friends, it offers ample living space and excellent performance for both coastal cruising and extended offshore adventures. Its modern design and ease of handling make it suitable for experienced sailors as well as those new to multihull sailing who want a reliable and stylish vessel for exploring the seas.
