This sturdy South African built, Fred Scholtz designed, center cockpit, cruising vessel has proven her worth with a circumnavigation (2004-2017) under her keel. Calypso has several years cruising the coast of Southern Africa and the current owner left the shores of South Africa for the Caribbean and east coast of the USA in early 2022.
The fine bow, 6'6" draft, tall rig, encapsulated keel, center cockpit make the Montevideo a fast, safe cruising vessel. The interior layout of the Montevideos and their sister ships, the Monte Carlos, was built to the specifications of their first owners. Calypso has 3 cabins and 2 heads with a comfortable salon and terrific galley. The interior joinery is spectacular, with many of the cabinet doors built with South African hardwoods. The engine access is from 3 sides.
The decks are fiberglass and have been recently painted (9/25) and a teak swim platform has been added, with a hinged 'hatch' that opens to allow easy access to the swim ladder and thus to and from the water.
