This 1987 Hi-Star 48 Sundeck "Hold My Pier" is the perfect boat to call home. A popular and reasonably priced boat during her production years, the Hi-Star 48 Sundeck was a top-of-the-line Taiwan import with a reputation for durable construction, superb engineering, and a comfortable ride. She's built on a conventional modified-V hull with moderate beam, Airex-cored hullsides, and a solid fiberglass bottom.
Inside, the Hi-Star 48 has the traditional all-teak interior common to most Asian boats. Where many motor yachts this size have three staterooms, the Hi-Star has a two-stateroom floorplan with the galley and dinette down. This is a very wide-open layout with big staterooms and a full-size dinette, but the forward head compartment lacks a separate stall shower. Outside, the aft deck is large enough for plenty of deck furnishings, and wide side decks provide easy access to the foredeck. Additional features include a hardtop, molded bow pulpit, aft deck wet bar, and a notably well-arranged engine room. A good performer with standard 375hp Cats, the Hi-Star 48 will cruise 18-19 knots.
She has been lovingly cared for by her current owners and has spent a considerable portion of her life here on the Bay and up in the DC area. She provides the perfect spot on the water to vacation with the family or to be used as a primary or secondary home on the water.
While she has a rich gorgeous wood interior, she also boats a very comfortable level of equipment:
- 8KW Onan Genset (recently serviced)
- 10ft RIB tender with crane
- 2500W Inverter
- Newish Battery Bank (2023)
- Vacuflush Heads
- Washer/Dryer
- New exterior furniture
- New Windlass with all chain rode
This boat has more liveaboard potential than most due to its enormous closet and storage space in the aft master. This 2-cabin, 2-head layout would also be a great coastal or Great Loop cruising option. No present leaks and mechanically sound in all the right places.
When first entering the salon you are greeted by a large expanse of glass providing spectacular views when afloat. The cabinetry and bulkheads are finished in a light teak. Easy access to the aft deck is provided by a stylish set of steps to match the salon. The lower helm is located at the forward starboard side of the salon with a quick access helm door to the side deck.
The owner's stateroom is located aft providing plenty of privacy from the guest quarters. The owner's stateroom has a queen bed and more cabinetry than you normally see in 50' yachts. Within this space is a well camouflaged combination washer-dryer helping to make this yacht a great liveaboard or at the very least a great home away from home on those long weekend trips. The owner's stateroom includes a large private head with stall shower with solid shower door.
The galley and dinette are located forward of the salon and down a few stairs, with an open ceiling layout providing abundant natural light. The galley is a large U-shape layout with plenty of open counter space and a deep double-bowl stainless steel sink. Cold food storage is provided by an upright refrigerator/ freezer and general storage is provided by an abundance of vented cabinetry both above and below, made from beautifully hand crafted teak. Cooking is handled by a 3 burner electric cooktop, an electric oven and a microwave. Setting the table is but a few short steps away with the large U-shaped dinette to starboard. The table is a large teak table surrounded by cushions which lowers on a hydraulic to create a comfortable third sleeping space.
The guest cabin is just forward of this area. This cabin has a pullman-style queen size berth and a private head. Storage is provided by a large closet, large drawers, and a large storage area beneath the berth.
This vessel offers a rare blend of sturdy Taiwan-built craftsmanship and full-time cruising/liveaboard readiness. She’s attractively priced and comes with a recent, detailed insurance survey available for review.
