1983 Cape Bay Fast 40 comes with a trailer and can be towed with a 1/2 ton truck.
This 1983 Cape Bay Fast 40, is ready to race. This rare Alan Adler-designed Fast 40 is a narrow, lightweight 39.8 ft performance machine with an 8 ft beam, lifting lead keel, and Divinycell sandwich construction, making it the biggest boat you can tow legally on the road with no permits, and she comes with her own trailer so you can avoid boatyards and launch at the ramp.
Built by North End Marine in Rockland, Maine, with only 18 boats produced between 1982-1983, she combines a fractional sloop rig, high‑power sail plan of about 468 sq ft, and a light 4,100 lb displacement with 2,000 lb of ballast for blistering speed and a lively yet controllable helm.
This boat has been thoughtfully upgraded for a single‑handed Transpac, and makes for a great short-handed day sailer as well. She carries a newer Doyle Stratis Main cut for a longer boom with high roach and full battens, a newer Doyle Stratis self‑tacking jib, and a newer Doyle Code Zero for powerful reaching.
Handling and safety are boosted with newer 4‑speed Pontos self‑tailing winches, recent B&G wind instruments, a newer B&G Zeus GPS plotter, and a newer tiller autopilot so you can drive the boat hard while maintaining precise control.
Power and systems are modernized with Victron Energy lithium batteries with remote monitoring, updated wiring throughout, plus a recently added main cover and boom tent to protect your investment at the dock or on the trailer.
With a lifting keel offering approximately 7.5 ft max draft and 3.5 ft minimum draft, she is as comfortable screaming offshore as she is slipping into shallow harbors and ramp launches, and a 5 HP outboard gets you in and out of the marina with ease.
If you're looking for a fast, towable, Transpac‑ready race boat with a legendary pedigree and a full suite of sails, gear, and electronics, this 1983 Cape Bay Fast 40 is ready to hook up, launch, and win.
