A 42-metre explorer of 440 tonnes, Ice Class certified, with a range of 8,900 nautical miles.
The first steel hull from a composite yard
The 42 Explorer is the first steel vessel Amer Yachts has built, and the founding model of a new custom steel line. The steel hull is paired with aluminium superstructures to manage weight and mass distribution.
Sanremo to Australia without stopping
A 56,300-litre fuel tank gives the yacht 8,900 nautical miles in Eco Mode running one engine group. Amer puts that distance at Sanremo to Australia, non-stop. On first open-sea trials the yacht recorded 60 litres of diesel an hour in Eco Mode, using two of its four engines.

Explorer underneath, superyacht on deck
Luiz De Basto designed the yacht to hide its long-range vocation behind Mediterranean superyacht styling. The flybridge runs 17 metres (56 feet), more than 40 per cent of the yacht’s length. Behind the profile sit a high bow, two 8,000 kg cranes, a touch-and-go helipad on the foredeck and a wheelhouse with 270-degree visibility.
Twelve years of arguing for pods
When Amer first applied IPS propulsion at this size and displacement, the industry treated pods as a small-yacht solution. Founder Fernando Amerio and his son Rodolfo were the ones who backed the technology for large hulls. The yard has been experimenting with it for more than twelve years.
“This exceptional result is the outcome of a long and relentless pursuit of improved performance and reduced fuel consumption and emissions.”
“The extraordinary results of the Amer 42 Explorer confirm the effectiveness of our Volvo Penta IPS Professional Platform, even on hulls of this displacement.”
