Comments

This early vintage Sparkman and Stephens designed Swan 44 is one of the most popular Swan designs ever produced. The Swan 44 has proven itself time and again with long distance passages, as well as excellent performance.

Akasia was built in 1973 & was originally British flagged as "Chassenet", she later sailed under the French flag and was sailed across the Atlantic in the 80s.  Her current owner has raced her locally on the PHRF circuit and also successfully sailed her in the Bermuda "One-Two"

Akasia was just re-powered with a brand new Yanmar 54hp diesel which is one of the most reliable and world wide serviced engine available today.

Owner's Comments:

  1. Akasia has been a well known boat on both sides of the Atlantic and both the East & West coasts of the USA under a variety of names. Christened as Chasenet in England, she sailed around Niece & crossed the Atlantic as Blow Up, later racing out of the Chesapeake, then later in California as Akasia. I was pleased to win my first race with her in class in the Bermuda One-Two. Though she is much more than a race boat and quite capable of fast safe passages in all conditions. Her custom carbon rudder has a solid carbon post which exceeds original S&S specification for strength. The new rudder dramatically improves handling, with less wetted surface, better shape (partially balanced) and much less weight, for reduced pitching through the waves. Akasia is a true joy to sail both upwind & down.
