J/Boats is pleased to introduce the NEW J/7, a modern 23' (7m) family daysailer with a huge, sit-in cockpit, easy-to-handle sail plan, and built-in stability that's second to none in the size range. This is the perfect sized daysailer - roomy enough to bring the whole gang, and small enough to tow home behind a mid-sized SUV.
The J/7 is engineered and built to meet the rugged demands of daily program use, directly benefiting from the 45+ years of experience gained from the use of the J/22, J/24, J/70 and J/80 in institutional programs worldwide. The J/7’s hull, deck and structural bulkheads feature composite sandwich construction with biaxial E-glass, vacuum-bagged Corecell foam core, with high density core inserts for high-load deck hardware. Strength-to-weight, this is one of the toughest J’s ever built.
• Large, easy-access, self-draining cockpit with secure 8.5’ (2.6m) cockpit seats and backrests, and step-on transom for easy swim platform boarding.
• Optimized deck layout for simplicity and efficiency, including an end-boom mainsheet system and bridle. No traveler to trip over!
• High 46% ballast-to-displacement ratio and low VCG (vertical center of gravity) 3.8’ fixed all-lead keel for exceptional all-weather stability. No hiking necessary!
• Jib roller furling system.
• Molded in ORC toe-rail (P&S) from the bow to the stern rails, with single gate across the transom.
• Deck-stepped, single spreader aluminum mast for convenient rigging, raising and lowering of the rig.
• Small interior cabin with settee seats and V-berth platform – ideal for weather protection, storage, a place to nap and personal privacy.
• Single-point lift capable and easy to trailer behind a mid-sized SUV.
• Options include Flexiteek cockpit sole, cockpit cushions, swim ladder, fixed sprit for an A-sail, and symmetric spin gear for team race/match race club programs.
There’s beauty in simplicity, and with the J/7, it couldn’t be simpler. With one hand on the tiller and the other on the main sheet, one can happily sail all day. All sail controls are within reach of the cockpit, and an adjustable backstay allows instant flattening of the sails in puffy conditions. With the J/7’s exceptional stability one can carry the main and small jib across a wide range of conditions. The J/7 also excels under mainsail alone, meaning more opportunities to sail when most others stay home. This versatility will double your days on the water next season.
The J/7’s cockpit comfort rivals that of the larger J/9 (28’) – known to have the most comfortable cockpit of any J ever. On the J/7, five + can find comfy places to relax, and four adults can sit on the same side while sailing upwind. The walk-through swim platform is added bonus space - perfect for hanging out, dragging your feet in the water, or as a secure platform for teaching. Visibility from the helm (while seated) is excellent, thanks to the high boom and the sleek cabin profile that still provides protection from the elements for those sitting in the forward corner seats.
