Meet Our Brokers

Edward James has served for twenty years as a full time yacht broker in Charleston, SC with forty-five years marine experience in total. He has logged over 70,000 offshore miles including the waters of the Atlantic, Caribbean and Mediterranean, and completed two trans-Atlantic crossings. Ed has served as a delivery captain, charter captain, private instructor for both power and sailing vessels, and project manager for vessel refit and maintenance. Ed holds a Certified Professional Yacht Broker certificate from YBAA as well as a Florida Broker's License. He also holds a USCG 100 ton Masters License and a certificate in celestial navigation.

David came to Charleston with the navy in 1986 where he served 4 years aboard a guided missile destroyer. He is a retired captain from the North Charleston Police Department where his time as a police diver led to ownership of a local commercial diving business. He has owned and operated multiple sail and power boats and is a member of Charleston Ocean Racing Association and US Sailing. David has competed in many local and off-shore yacht races. He currently owns a small skiff and small diesel trawler which he and his family use to enjoy the coastal waters in and around Charleston. He looks forward to working with you.

Bruce Smith has been a broker with Ashley Yachts since 1984. He holds a Certified Professional certificate from YBAA, a Florida Broker’s License, 100 Ton Masters License, and a licensed real estate agent. Prior to his brokerage career he served in the Coast Guard, worked in commercial shipping and was a delivery captain for both sailing and power vessels. Even a few years as captain of a stern wheel riverboat!

Greg has been on boats, both power and sail, and in the water his entire life. He has worked in all aspects of the boating industry including charters, deliveries, towing, sales and service on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. A USCG licensed 100 Ton Master Captain, he sails and cruises Charleston Harbor and beyond every chance he gets. You can benefit from Greg's vast well-rounded experience and knowledge as he helps you find the right boat.

Glen has extensive offshore experience, starting with learning to sail on the East Coast of South Africa, completing a 600 mile race off the same coast, and then sailing from Cape Town across to the Caribbean. He continues to live aboard the same boat, and has done numerous deliveries on the East Coast, the Bahamas and West Coast of Florida.
He holds a 100 Ton Masters License, races locally and is involved in charters. He has also worked for Towboat US and Boat US. Glen's desire is to match his clients' needs with the appropriate boat.
