MAHANA
An iconic Sonship Pilothouse Motor Yacht with classic lines and a timeless design that is unmistakably West Bay
Mahana (Māori • Hawaiian • Tahitian): "warmth, sunlight, radiant daylight, rest, vacation"
Inspired by her name, MAHANA's radiant, warm, and light-filled interior, was thoughtfully curated by national award-winning ISD Interior Designer Cary Vogel, who created an inviting atmosphere throughout. Vogel skillfully coordinated the yacht's rift-cut American Cherry joinery with a satin finish, Madrone burl accents, and oversized frameless windows that flood the interior with natural light and expansive views. Custom Hunter Douglas 2-inch blinds framed by tailored lambrequins complement the design, while carefully selected new carpet, fabrics, finishes, and artwork reflect the owner's South Pacific tribal theme with a refined decorative touch, beautifully orchestrated throughout the yacht.
MAHANA (2001) was engineered and built in the Dutch tradition of hand handcrafted quality, by the West Bay Design Group, in Delta B.C. Her sleek hand sculpted hydrodynamic hull delivers the ultimate in stability, comfort, performance and most importantly, confidence on the water. Powered by twin DDC MTU V12 2000 diesel engines, 1350 hp each, (fully serviced in 2026) MAHANA effortlessly reaches cruising speeds of 20-21 knots and a maximum hull speed of 29 knots.
SonShips are built to the highest standards using advanced composite construction methods, incorporating Core-Cell structural foam in the hull and superstructure and vacuum-bag technology. The decks are balsa-cored for additional strength and weight efficiency. This engineered structure results in a strong, lightweight yacht with excellent sound and vibration reduction, contributing to the quiet, solid ride for which West Bay SonShips are well known.
Designed for comfort and convenience, this superior yacht features 3 beautifully appointed staterooms and 3 ensuite or private heads, plus crew's quarters for 2, MAHANA is perfect for extended voyages with family and friends, whether for owner operator or with a crew of 2.
Main Salon
Entering from the teak aft deck, through custom double stainless steel and glass watertight doors, you step into MAHANA's spacious 20-foot full-beam Main Salon, where warm American Cherry joinery with Madrone Burl accents creates an inviting coastal elegance. Generous headroom and oversized frameless windows enhance the sense of openness while filling the salon with natural light and sweeping water views.
A substantial custom wrap-around sectional sofa, extends the full length of the starboard side of the salon, providing generous seating for relaxing or entertaining and was professionally recovered in designer fabrics in (2019.) Two comfortable swiveling barrel chairs complement the seating area. A custom-engineered upholstered ottoman/coffee trunk, designed and built specifically for MAHANA, anchors the seating arrangement while providing convenient built-in storage.
Oversized frameless salon windows bring in abundant natural light and offer sweeping water views. Hunter Douglas 2" blinds, framed by fabric lambrequins, provide privacy while maintaining the yacht's elegant interior styling. Soft soffit and overhead rope lighting, together with new carpeting installed in (2019,) enhance the warm and inviting atmosphere throughout the salon.
Central to Mahana's South Pacific theme, and prominently displayed in her Main Salon, is an original bronze sculpture titled "Harmony, by renowned artist Sandra Koop, depicting sea turtles in graceful, choreographed motion. The sculpture stands 31.5 inches tall, and with its marble base weighs approximate 101 pounds. Accented with blue-green patina, that complements the salon's interior palette, the piece is accompanied by a certificate of Authenticity from Foundry Master Charles L. Wambold and carries a stated value of $20,000.
The salon's entertainment system centers around a Samsung 50" curved flat-screen television on a retractable lift, paired with a Denon wireless home entertainment system that is multi-zoned to serve both the Main Salon and Upper Deck.
Additional components include:
- Denon tuner, CD and DVD player

Pilothouse / Command Center
The Raised Pilothouse Command Center serves as MAHANA's primary navigation station, while also functioning as a comfortable gathering space when cruising or at anchor. The 78' SonShip's spacious command center is designed to accommodate the latest electronics and navigational equipment, all beautifully integrated within finely crafted rift-cut American Cherry joinery. Two, custom Ultra Leather Stidd helm chairs are mounted side-by-side at the helm, providing exceptional comfort and excellent visibility while underway.
Just aft of the helm is a raised U-shaped settee, surrounding a hand-crafted American Cherry dinette table, with a Madrone Burl top. A removable and storable leaf allows the table to expand for additional seating. Port and starboard pilothouse doors open directly to the yacht's wide walk-around side decks, allowing easy access while docking or handling lines. The pilothouse doors have opening windows, along with Phantom screens concealed within the doors, and two overhead hatches with screens can be opened to provide natural light and fresh air throughout the space. A beautiful newly carpeted and Stainless-Steel staircase leads from the pilothouse to the flybridge above.
