A little history: 'Myrdhin' the Rebel 42’ Van De Stadt design was built in the East end of London between 1975 and 1977, based on a Tyler fiberglass molded hull and deck. The original Admiral's Cup design was heavily reinforced with a view for ocean passage making. She has a stiffer keel, chainplates, a special skeg-hung rudder with better aerodynamics than the original spade design, it was designed by the Formula 1 designer Patrick Head. After consulting with her designer, Van de Stadt in Holland, she was fitted with a shorter stiffer rig and heavier stainless steel standing rigging specifically designed for short-handed ocean voyaging. Robust stainless steel deck frames were added at the base of mast and powerful self-tailing Lewmar 48 winches were installed in specially reinforced bases at the cockpit coamings.
Tanks were increased in size and constructed of built-in fiberglass construction. They measure approximately 50 gallons diesel and 120 gallons of water.
Between 1977 and 1979 she made a number of shake down passages around Britain and the English Channel and the Irish Sea, some in gale force weather. In 1979 she sailed with her husband and wife crew from London UK for the East Coast of the USA.
They encountered some very heavy weather especially in the Bay of Biscay and between Lisbon and Madeira. During this heavy weather encounter, the boat behaved very well, made good time and felt very secure. Stopping in Spain, Portugal and the the Carat Islands then crossed the ocean to Barbados then made their way up to Port Canavral. She spent several years on the Florida coast before being shipped by truck to San Pedro, CA in 1985. Myrdhin was registered with the Registrar of British Ships at Custom House in London in
1977. She was officially imported into the USA when she arrived in 1980. She now has CA DMV registration ( in process)
