Designed by Sparkman & Stephens, this Tartan is an impressive sought-after sailboat that offers a combination of a fast, modern underbody with a beautiful interior for which Tartans are known. They were offered for a run of 5 years totaling 136 hulls. The craftmanship is bar none. She's built of hand laid fiberglass with the perfect ratio of weight to strength. Built like her larger sisters, her deck, self-bailing cockpit and interior are designed for safety and comfort. Her lead keel is attached with SS keel bolts. Her keel-stepped, masthead rig has double spreaders and is supported by SS 1x19 upper and lower side stays, forestay, split backstay and a baby stay. Slotted aluminum toe rail and fasteners secure the hull to deck joint. There's very little exterior teak to care for. The walking space is wide with handrails and double lifelines. There are eight aluminum framed opening ports with screens as well as a forward deck hatch for good cross ventilation. Below she has a double forepeak berth with a seat & standing headroom for changing, a starboard settee which converts to a double and a shorter settee berth on the port side with a fold down nav station behind. Aft to starboard is a wide quarter berth with locker behind. Good storage beneath all. The head lies to starboard between the forward and main cabins, with a hanging locker across. Standing headroom is 6'. The keel steps in the head area keeping any moisture out of the main salon and teak and holly sole. The galley is U-shaped with the stove flanked by the ice box aft and the SS sink forward. A locker is above the stove. Behind the companionway stairs is the Yanmar diesel.

Pros
Sturdy Construction: Built with a solid fiberglass hull and quality craftsmanship, the Tartan 28 offers durability and longevity.
Classic Design: Timeless lines and a traditional full keel design provide good tracking and stability under sail.
Spacious Interior: For a 28-foot boat, it offers a surprisingly roomy cabin with comfortable berths, a functional galley, and ample storage.
Sailing Performance: Balanced sail plan and keel design deliver manageable handling and respectable performance for coastal cruising.
Good Resale Value: Tartan yachts are well-regarded, often retaining value well due to their reputation and build quality.
Cons
Older Systems: Being a 1985 model, many onboard systems such as electrical, plumbing, and engine components may require updating or maintenance.
Weight and Speed: The heavier full keel design means the boat may be slower and less agile compared to more modern designs with fin keels.
Limited Space: While roomy for its size, the 28-foot length still limits onboard living space and headroom compared to larger cruisers.
Maintenance: Older boats often require more upkeep, including potential issues with deck hardware, rigging, and interior wear.
Limited Modern Amenities: Lacks some of the conveniences and technology found on newer sailboats, which might be a consideration for some buyers.
