The highlight of the Shannon builder's experience is when a couple orders a customized Shannon and we know that the boat will do exactly what they want their ideal boat to do. That was the case with this Shannon Shoalsailer 35 "Zydeco", and for the last 18 years the owners have truly loved sailing this boat. Walt Schulz believes that their choice of a light blue hull and pale green nonskid made for the prettiest Shoalsailer that Shannon ever built. The owners realized fully the potential of the Shoalsailer's great shallow draft performance and livability, cruising Florida, the Keys, and the Bahamas with an emphasis on snorkeling and scuba diving.
The Shoalsailer 35 is a highly acclaimed patented design that has the ability to sail in less than 3 feet in all conditions, with excellent all-around sailing. The stability curve is similar to deeper draft monohulls, and the boat goes to weather at an angle of heel of only 5 to 10 degrees, similar to a multi-hull. The 12'9 beam allows the Shoalsailer 35 to be berthed in conventional marina slips, unlike catamarans. With the Yanmar 40HP diesel engine and folding Gori prop, the Shoalsailer has a cruising speed of 7 knots, with excellent handling characteristics including in reverse.
The large cockpit with fully equipped twin wheels allows spacious seating and walk-around freedom. She tracks well with the below deck autopilot whether sailing or motoring. The full roll-up enclosures allow for protection when you want it and ventilation when needed.
