2022 Seawind 1160 lite w/Diesel Motors

When we decided we wanted to liveaboard a sailboat when we retired, we selected our Seawind because it had all the features we wanted -  upgraded amenities, great sailing, and the ability to sail her with just the two of us, although  Jim also sails her singlehanded quite often.  And our boat, Summer Salt has lived up to and exceeded our expectations at every turn.  

After two years of sailing her in New England waters we spent 8 months living on her, sailing from Maine down to the Bahamas and back. During that time, we were impressed with how well she handled sailing upwind and in rough seas. There was ample living and galley space as well as places for the two of us to have our own spaces if needed.  

We easily hosted guests for several days at a time. The washing machine was a wonderful convenience and has remarkable capacity for its small size. The large freezer and the cockpit freezer/fridge made it easy to store lots of food while we were in the Bahamas. Her 3 and ½ foot draft allowed us to anchor in many places that other boats in the area could not. We made the journey south spending a lot of time on the Intercoastal Waterway.  

The combination of the shallow draft and 62 foot mast height allowed us to not  worry  about the state of the tides - either too low for the depth in shallow areas or too high to pass under fixed bridges, as did our sailing companions (some had higher masts while others had deeper drafts which would delay them while they waited for the right tide conditions).  Another great aspect of owning a Seawind is the wonderful Seawind community online that is always there to answer questions or help solve problems, and we’ve met wonderful Seawind people through our travels. We are reluctantly listing Summer Salt only because we are buying another Seawind.
