Designed by Philip Rhodes and built by Henry B. Nevins, this classic double-planked mahogany motor launch with gleaming teak decks features modern diesel engines and updated mechanical systems while still retaining all of her beautiful original deck hardware, joinery, and interior fittings.
Her spacious cockpit is partially covered with a hardtop and ideal for entertaining and harbor cruising while her cabin provides ample comfort for overnights.
KU CHU's original name was LITTLE REYNARD (Reynard is French for fox.) She was built for James Lamont, the son of Thomas Lamont who was JP Morgan's CEO and arguably the leading banker of his generation; and grandfather of Ned Lamont, the current governor of CT.
Ku Chu features a wide, open cockpit with a bench seat across the aft end, step ladders on either side with a moveable ladder to access the side deck or for boarding. Forward, under the hard top are settees port and starboard. The helm is to port with a forward facing bench seat, engine controls and navigation instruments. A center line door provides access down three steps into the cabin.
To starboard is the galley area with a classic Chamberlain coal stove, stainless steel sink, counters, and storage cabinets. The original ice box has been converted to electric refrigeration and is located under the starboard cockpit settee and is accessible through a door in the galley or by lifting the seat.
Opposite to port is the enclosed head with VaccuFlush head and sink with hand held shower. Forward are two settee berths with fold down upper berths above. There is a classic Nevins drop leaf table in between the berths.
KU CHU is the perfect platform for family picnic outings, entertaining, watching the races, and overnights with a few close friends or family.
