Boat Test Review on BoatTest.com

Overview

The Nimbus 4 95 Flybridge is the brand's new flagship model, blending Nordic design with true long-range cruising capabilities. Measuring 49 feet 7 inches in length overall, with a beam of 14 feet 9 inches and a draft of 3 feet 9 inches, this vessel weighs approximately 34,850 pounds under test conditions. It features a 449-gallon fuel capacity and is designed with owner-operators in mind, incorporating specific features to make managing the yacht accessible and straightforward.

Power and Performance

Powered by twin Volvo Penta IPS 650 engines, the 4 95 Flybridge delivers a top speed of 34.3 miles per hour at 3,750 RPM. Its most efficient cruising speed was found at 2,750 RPM, achieving 19.7 miles per hour while burning 24.5 gallons per hour, resulting in a fuel economy of 0.8 miles per gallon and a range of 361 statute miles with a 10% fuel reserve. The boat accelerates rapidly, reaching 10 knots in 4.8 seconds and 20 knots in 11.1 seconds. The Volvo Penta Dynamic Positioning System (DPS) with Dock Assist and joystick control makes handling remarkably easy, allowing precise maneuvering and speed control without needing to touch the steering wheel. The vertical orientation of the pods reduces heeling during turns and improves propulsion efficiency, contributing to a smooth, level ride.

Exterior Design and Deck Features

The exterior layout emphasizes functionality and comfort. A large side access door located at the helm facilitates easy boarding and communication during docking, especially beneficial for solo operators. The bow area features a spacious six-by-six-foot sun pad with adjustable backrest, grab rails, cup holders, ambient lighting, and storage lockers, creating an ideal spot for relaxation. The anchor locker is deep and equipped with an all-chain rode and chain counter for ease of use. The flybridge accommodates up to eight people comfortably, with seating for five at the table, two captain’s chairs, and a sun lounge, all protected by a sturdy hardtop with a retractable rear window and optional bimini for shade. The aft swim platform spans nearly five feet in depth and the full width of the boat, hydraulically lowering into the water with integrated steps and remote control operation. Additional features include a fold-out food prep surface with an electric Kenyon grill, storage compartments for fenders and dock lines, a fresh hot and cold water shower, and a clean, secure boarding area on the aft deck with concealed cleats and fairleads.

Interior Living Spaces

The interior offers a well-thought-out open floor plan with a split galley on the port side featuring four soft-close drawers, an Isotherm refrigerator, optional dishwasher, induction cooktop, convection oven, and ample storage including custom Nimbus cutlery. The galley countertop includes molded fiddle rails and a stainless steel sink with a secondary basin. The salon provides comfortable seating with a pull-out ottoman for additional guests, a flat-screen TV on an electric lift, and excellent visibility through large windows with minimal bulkheads to maintain connection with the surrounding environment. A companion lounge area opposite the helm offers seating for two with storage and charting space, enhanced by air conditioning vents and lighting. Overhead, a large skylight opens fully with a push button, allowing natural light and ventilation.

Private Accommodations

The forward VIP cabin is spacious with generous headroom, abundant natural light from large side windows, and thoughtful recessed lighting. It includes dual closets, overhead cabinets, large drawers beneath the berth, and access to mechanical components such as the air conditioning chiller and bow thruster. The starboard cabin is configured with two bunks, suitable for children or guests, or can be optionally arranged as a home office, with ample storage and the option for a washer/dryer combo. Both cabins share a spacious day head finished with stainless steel trim, a vanity mirror, electric flushing toilet, and a shower with a rain head, handheld wand, and glazed window for privacy and natural light. The full-beam master suite features a large berth with sufficient overhead clearance, a starboard-side lounge that can double as a berth, and a port-side vanity with extra storage drawers. The suite includes generous closet space, a safe, and a private head with a spacious shower, rain and handheld shower heads, and a clean, open layout emphasizing comfort and practicality.

Conclusion

The Nimbus 4 95 Flybridge impresses with its combination of advanced technology, thoughtful design, and comfortable accommodations, making it well-suited for owner-operators seeking a manageable yet capable long-range cruiser. The integration of Volvo Penta’s Dynamic Positioning System and joystick controls simplifies handling, especially in tight docking situations. Its spacious exterior and interior layouts provide versatility for entertaining and relaxing, while the private cabins and heads offer comfort for extended cruising. Overall, the 4 95 Flybridge represents a significant step forward for Nimbus, delivering a refined and practical yacht experience.
