With almost 800 launched, the Islander 36 has proven one of the most popular 36' sailboats ever built, and remains one of the most active one-design fleets on the Bay. With the deep keel option (which this vessel has), skeg hung rudder and keel-stepped mast, the I-36 is a stiff boat that handles the typical Bay summer winds with aplomb while also doing well in light airs.
And not surprisingly with her comfortable cockpit and spacious interior, the design is also well-suited for cruising and you regularly see them heading to Mexico and points South as part of the Baja Ha-Ha fleet. For more comments and insight on this U.S.-built classic, do a Google search for "Islander 36", then link to the I-36 Owner's Association.
This particular example has had only two owners since new with the current owner having had her for about 35 years; she's VERY clean overall with her oiled teak interior showing almost as new (plus Carlos Garcia maintained the hull for all these years including Awlgripping the topsides), also nice canvas and brightwork, exterior color scheme is striking white with black boot stripe and bottom. And best of all, she's powered by a Yanmar diesel vs. the pesky Pathfinder!
Note potentially transferable Sausalito Yacht Harbor slip, there's a long waiting list to get into the marina here so this is a material benefit if you're able to take advantage. Also note she's real competitively priced given her condition--the Islanders are all going on 50 years old now and there's a lot of junk out there!
New listing, more photos up shortly...
