AND WE ARE HAPPY to go over the rigging with you to make sure you are comfortable with this nifty trailerable cruiser. She can serve you well for the next ten years or she might be the stepping stone to your next sailboat. OUR HOPE IS THAT YOU'LL HAVE SUCH A GOOD EXPERIENCE THAT YOU'LL COME BACK AND BUY YOUR NEXT SAILBOAT FROM ROOKE SAILS ! ! !
This Hunter 240 started its life being sold by a Hunter dealer in St. Louis and the current owners from Memphis bought the boat in 2023 as their introduction to sailing. And she has served that function mightily in the quest of the owners first step towards their retirement sailboat for the Gulf Coast and beyond. The Hunter 240 is the refinement of the Hunter 23.5 but has nicer non-skid, the open transom and the sternrail seats built into the aft end of the cockpit. The interior is very OPEN with no main bulkhead to get in the way. Further she has that huge aft berth that makes a real double berth not typically found in trailerable boats of this size.
Wonderfully there is nothing to do to this boat but hitch her up to your vehicle and go sailing. No rework of anything required !
But whether you want a sailboat for general recreation and daysailing or for that stepping stone towards your more lofty thoughts, the Hunter 240 is a very MANAGEABLE sized boat that can still be trailered for a weekend outing or a vacation of some distance without needing a super large vehicle. She is well balanced on the helm, maneuverable and, virtually, can not turnover with her water ballast in place, yet with ballast removed she is less of a weight to trailer. With her 6 hp long shaft Suzuki outboard she is ready for you to purchase.
Now having been moved from it's berth in south Louisiana in a freshwater lake to our yard in Memphis she is certainly more accessible for many a buyer. Please contact us to arrange a viewing and let's get you and your family "SAILING" in this great trailerable cruising sailboat. By the way, she is fast enough to enjoy some club racing in the future if the interest sparks ! And as we say:
IT'S YOUR MOVE ! !

The Biggest Pros and Cons
The 1998 Hunter 240 is a popular small cruiser known for its ease of handling and comfortable accommodations. Here are some pros and cons to consider:
Pros
Spacious Interior: For a 24-foot boat, the Hunter 240 offers a surprisingly roomy cabin with standing headroom and comfortable sleeping arrangements for four.
Easy to Sail: With a simple sail plan and responsive handling, it’s well-suited for beginners or those looking for a hassle-free day sail or weekend cruise.
Trailerable: Its size and weight make it easy to trailer and launch, giving owners flexibility to explore different waters.
Kick-up Rudder and Centerboard: These features allow for shallow water sailing and easy beaching.
Good Build Quality: Hunter Yachts has a reputation for solid construction, and the 240 is no exception, with durable fiberglass and quality fittings.
Cons
Limited Storage: While the interior is spacious, storage space can be tight, which may be an issue for longer trips.
Modest Performance: The 240 is designed more for cruising comfort than racing, so it may feel underpowered in light winds or when trying to keep up with faster boats.
Basic Systems: Being an older model, some onboard systems and hardware might be outdated or require upgrading.
Limited Headroom: Although better than many in its class, taller sailors may find the headroom somewhat restrictive.
Small Cockpit: The cockpit size is adequate but can feel cramped with several crew aboard.
