ARAMINTA is L Francis Herreshoffââ?¬â?¢s clipper bow ketch (Design no 89), often referred to as ââ?¬Å?Baby Tiââ?¬ï¿½. Built in Maine in 1954, ARAMINTA has a LOA of 33ââ?¬â?¢, beam of 8ââ?¬â?¢6ââ?¬ï¿½, and a 5ââ?¬â?¢ draft.
While maintaining her original design/features, ARAMINTA has undergone many needed improvements: first under the guidance of Maynard Bray in Maine the 1990s, then by George Zachorne in Rhode Island in 2016/17. Since acquiring her from Mystic Seaport ARAMINTA has been well maintained and many improvements made, including new bottom caulking, with ~3,000 silicon bronze fastenings, bronze cast knees as added mast support, modified bulkhead, wider cabin benches with new back support, new forepeak sol, new cockpit bench, new cabin and cockpit cushions, new jib club, and new trail boards.
ARAMINTA also boasts the following new equipment since 2017: complete set of Gambell and Hunter traditional-style sails (main, mizen, jib, genoa, mizen staysail, storm jib), sail covers, 90% of all lines and halyards, Yanmar diesel 15 hp engine (~100 hours), drive shaft, feathering propeller, fuel tank, water bubble, CQR anchor and rode, composting head, and Fairclough cover.
ARAMINTA is a dream to sail - as stated by L Francis in hisÃ? Sensible Cruising DesignsÃ? she ââ?¬Å?approaches the ultimate in day sailing and short-range cruisingââ?¬ï¿½.
