Summary
2001 Grand Banks 49 Eastbay HX
Vessel Walkthrough

Access from port or starboard though the midship gates to the wide side decks, to the covered cockpit or the hydraulic swim platform with dinghy cradle makes boarding from many different levels very easy.

The transom door to the cockpit from the swim platform is on the starboard side. Cockpit has a mezzanine bench seat facing aft (with direct engine room access under a seat), flip up seating inside the transom and still has room for more chairs.

Three wide steps on starboard lead to the fully air-conditioned aft salon and helm area. Next going forward there is an “L” shaped dinette on port and bench seat on starboard. Helm station on starboard has a bench seat with room for two, dual Garmin MFD screens and more great electronics (details to follow). On port is an outstanding navigator station with a bench seat for two, a hidden bar area, several storage cabinets, and its’ own Garmin MFD display.

Proceeding down a stairway slightly to starboard is access to the lower salon, galley and staterooms with ensuite heads. On port is the “U” shaped galley with great storage and counter space. To starboard is the “U” shaped dinette with flip up table and even more storage. Proceeding forward is the hallway to the staterooms.

Twin berth guest stateroom to port opposite the guest head with shower. This head is also the “day head” with direct access from the hallway. Forward is the master stateroom with a centerline queen berth, lots of storage, and a private head and separate stall shower to port.

Natural teak flooring in cockpit and helm area in excellent condition. Teak and holly cabin sole below.

Pros

Solid Build Quality: Grand Banks yachts are renowned for their sturdy fiberglass construction and excellent craftsmanship, providing durability and long-term reliability.

Spacious Interior: The 49 Eastbay HX offers a well-laid-out interior with ample living space, including comfortable cabins, a full galley, and a roomy salon, making it ideal for extended cruising.

Efficient Hull Design: The semi-displacement hull provides a good balance between fuel efficiency and speed, allowing for economical cruising.

Good Visibility: The raised pilothouse design offers excellent all-around visibility for safe and comfortable navigation.

Classic Styling: The traditional teak wood finishes and classic lines appeal to those who appreciate timeless yacht aesthetics.

Strong Performance: Equipped with reliable twin diesel engines, it delivers steady and manageable performance in various sea conditions.

Cons

Maintenance Intensive: The extensive use of teak and wood requires regular upkeep to maintain its appearance and prevent deterioration.

Fuel Consumption: While efficient for its size and type, the semi-displacement hull and twin engines can still result in higher fuel consumption compared to smaller or more modern displacement hulls.

Age-Related Wear: Being a 2001 model, some systems and components may be outdated or in need of refurbishment, depending on maintenance history.

Limited Top Speed: The hull design prioritizes comfort and efficiency over speed, so it may not satisfy those seeking faster cruising capabilities.
