The Grand Banks' reputation for building a superior cruising experience is one built from the bottom up -literally, starting with the Sparkman & Stephens-designed hull, a modified deep-V, which is no exception. One of the first observations people make is how well it performs with today's high-powered engines. Remarkably fast, quiet, comfortable, and agile at either helm station.
Many subtle design features contribute to the low trim angle and great visibility, from weight distribution to the specialized geometry of the propeller tunnels. The twin tunnels also provide better stability, most notably at anchor or at slower speeds. The dual chine hull gets you swiftly on plane, and along with the flared bow, helps keep things dry on deck. The wide 15'9" beam not only provides for more space and openness throughout the living areas, but it also serves to increase stability at sea for an even more comfortable ride.
Just as important as the design of her hull is its construction, a time-tested process that is renowned for producing seaworthy, long-lasting boats. The highest-quality fiberglass fabrics are expertly hand-laid and laminated with resins selected for their resistance to blistering. The 47 Europa is solid fiberglass below the waterline, with cored topsides above the boot stripe using Herex cross-linked closed-cell foam to prevent water intrusion. This coring is vacuum-bagged to optimize strength and reduce weight. A system of heavy-duty stringers is molded of fiberglass and bonded to the hull for added strength and rigidity.
A generous 15'9" beam makes the 47 Europa ultra roomy, and an interior designed by the renowned U.K. design team Design Unlimited makes it both practical and beautiful. Ergonomically fashioned for maximum comfort, the galley-up layout includes granite countertops, top-quality appliances, and cleverly designed storage throughout. In the salon, a large L-settee surrounds the handcrafted teak dining table. The pull-out L-settee can be used to create a double berth for additional guests. The optional starboard settee provides so much more than just a place to sit. It has excellent storage beneath and ample space for a nap or a single bunk. This living space opens aft to an expansive cockpit, protected from the elements by the extended flybridge deck.
The Grand Banks 47 Europa is configured on a traditional sedan layout. The interior is finished with satin varnish, and the teak-and-holly cabin sole is protected with custom carpets. Hand-rubbed satin-varnished teak cabinets and paneling are furnished throughout the interior.
The up galley is equipped with two refrigerators, one freezer, a convection microwave oven, an electric cooktop, a double stainless steel sink, drop-down dish lockers, and Giallo Topazio granite countertops. Excellent ventilation and light are provided from generous opening windows and overhead 12-volt DC lighting. The main salon is on the same level as the cockpit and accessed through a sliding salon door. The custom straight settee is to starboard in the salon, and the L-shaped dinette is located to port. The dinette converts to a double berth when pulled out. There is a Grand Banks solid teak high-low salon table with two opposing fold-out leaves to maximize the surface area. A flatscreen TV is mounted out of the way in the aft port corner of the salon. The salon is climate-controlled with two air handlers port and starboard and ventilated through the upper valances. The lower helm is positioned forward to starboard, with a double Stidd Helm chair and an opening side-deck helm door. The center-forward windshield has a motorized ram that opens electronically, allowing natural ventilation at the galley and lower helm station.
The cabins are positioned forward in the boat, down four steps from the companionway. The guest cabin is to starboard and features two twin berths and a hanging locker. Each berth has generous storage space below and 12V reading lights. There is an overhead opening Manship hatch with a screen and a blackout panel. There is an opening polished stainless steel portlight to starboard. The guest head and shower are located to port and equipped with a Tecma toilet, granite countertops, and a generous stall shower, an overhead Manship hatch, and an opening stainless steel portlight to port.
The owner's cabin is located in the forepeak of the vessel, with a Queen island berth (Custom Mattress), teak hanging locker, flat-screen television, opening ports, and an overhead hatch. Both staterooms are air-conditioned or heated through the Marine Air system. The owner's head is located on the starboard side with a Tecma toilet, granite countertops, and a stall shower. Both cabins have teak-and-holly soles with custom carpets.
