KOKOMO is a stand-out example of the Grand Banks 42 Classic-a yacht that earned its reputation by delivering seaworthy performance and timeless styling to cruisers around the globe. Built in 1993, KOKOMO benefits from the updated hull design introduced in the early 1990s, offering a wider beam, a longer waterline, and improved handling. But it's her condition and upgrades that set her apart. Included with the sale are the original Grand Banks manuals and owner documentation of routine maintenance for the last three years.
Twin 375hp Caterpillar 3208TAs push her to a fast cruise of 10+ knots and wide-open speeds approaching 20 knots. She rides on fresh natural teak decks with gleaming brightwork on rails and transom and carries four aluminum fuel tanks installed in 2015. Updated Garmin electronics, a Northern Lights 9kW generator, and a modern refrigeration system round out a cruiser that's ready for the next adventure.
The teak decks were removed in September 2020, the screw holes were patched, the decks were faired and coated, and new teak decks were installed. New decks were affixed with adhesive to eliminate the possibility of water intrusion from traditional screw-down deck boards.
The flybridge is spacious and functional, featuring back-to-back port and starboard benches, an L-Shaped seating area, a teak dinette table, two West Marine folding deck chairs, and a side table. Navigation is handled by a Garmin Multi-Function Display, radar, autopilot, Garmin 800 AIS transceiver, NMEA 2000 network, and VHF. The Bimini protects without compromising visibility.
KOKOMO's layout is classic and proven. The saloon is bright, open, and lined with warm teak joinery. A large L-Settee sits to starboard, featuring a lower helm that offers excellent visibility, full electronics, and a tilt-out center windshield. The portside galley is well-equipped with a Summit twin-drawer refrigerator, a matching twin-drawer freezer, a three-burner stove/oven, a microwave, a beverage/wine cooler, and a large stainless steel sink.
Below, the forward stateroom offers a V-berth and private freshwater head with a shower. After that, the owner's stateroom spans the beam and features a centerline queen, abundant teak cabinetry, a split head with a stall shower, a freshwater VacuFlush head, and excellent ventilation. Three Dometic reverse cycle A/C units serve all zones. Every space shows care and thoughtful use.
The engine room is clean, well-ventilated, and easily accessible. Twin Caterpillars are paired with Twin Disc transmissions, Racor filtration, Groco strainers, 2" stainless shafts, and 3-blade bronze props. Systems include 50A shore power bow and stern, Glendenning engine synchronizer, Xantrex 2000W inverter, three battery chargers, oil change system, and a fuel manifold feeding 536 gallons of diesel from four aluminum tanks.
KOKOMO also comes with a 10-foot Achilles double floor, aluminum-hulled tender, bought new this year. The tender is propelled by a low-hour 15HP 4-stroke, electric/pull-start outboard engine that sits freshly serviced on her bunks located on the aft deck. Deployment and retrieval are made easy by the electric Strong-Arm winch and davit integrated into the steadying mast-a hand-operated Lewmar winch serves as a manual backup. LED spreader lights illuminate the aft deck, assisting with after-dark operations.
KOKOMO is not just a classic Grand Banks-she's a dialed-in cruising yacht that combines pedigree with real-world capability. She's clean, upgraded, impressively maintained, and priced to move. If you're looking for a turnkey 42 Classic with Cats and the right gear, don't miss this one.
