Pros
Performance-Oriented Design: The Express 37 features a sleek, lightweight hull and a fractional rig, offering excellent upwind performance and agility, making it a favorite among racers and cruising sailors alike.
Solid Construction: Built with quality materials and craftsmanship, the 1986 model maintains durability and seaworthiness even decades after its launch.
Comfortable Interior: Despite its performance focus, the Express 37 offers a thoughtfully designed interior with ample headroom, functional layout, and sufficient storage, suitable for extended cruising.
Responsive Handling: The boat’s balanced design and responsive helm provide an engaging sailing experience, especially in varied wind conditions.
Good Downwind Performance: With an option for symmetrical or asymmetrical spinnakers, the Express 37 excels on downwind legs.
Cons
Limited Tankage: The fuel and water tanks are somewhat small by modern cruising standards, which may require more frequent stops or careful resource management on longer voyages.
Maintenance Requirements: As with many older performance boats, some owners may find upkeep and maintenance more demanding, particularly with original hardware and systems.
Modest Interior Volume: While comfortable, the interior space is more compact compared to contemporary cruising yachts of similar length, which might feel cramped for some sailors.
Less Modern Amenities: Being a design from the mid-1980s, the Express 37 may lack some of the modern conveniences and electronics found on newer boats, unless upgraded by the owner.
Tender Storage: Limited space for dinghy or tender storage can be a consideration for those planning extended cruising or requiring shore access.
