Major Highlights
  • Recently repowered: in 2024 with a brand-new Yanmar 6LY 440-hp diesel engine—now with under 135 hours—bringing modern reliability and performance to this classic design. Whether you're cruising at a comfortable pace or need to make time ahead of weather, this upgrade adds serious value and peace of mind.
  • Renowned Hull Design: The Ellis 36 is celebrated for its 14 degree deadrise at the transom, offering a stable, dry ride that tames the chop of the open sound.

  • Flybridge Perspective: A full-function upper helm offers 360-degree visibility, essential for navigating crab & lobster pots or docking in tight quarters.

Accommodations

The interior of GULLYWHUMPER is a warm and inviting space that reflects the high-quality craftsmanship Ellis is known for. The cabin is accented with varnished teak trim, solid teak doors and cabinetry, and a low-luster teak sole, creating a classic Downeast aesthetic. Recently updated overheads in both the salon and cabin have been finished with clean, modern laminate—offering a fresh look and easier maintenance compared to traditional fabric.

Forward, a door provides access to the anchor locker, followed by comfortable V-berths port and starboard. Ash ceiling strips line the hull above each berth, adding a touch of warmth and tradition. Each berth includes two large drawers underneath, and a shelf above the forward bulkhead is perfect for stowing the filler cushion. Storage continues with a linen locker aft of the starboard berth and a cedar-lined hanging locker just aft of that.

The spacious head is located to starboard and features a vanity with sink and hot/cold pressure water, a Sealand 8100 Series electric toilet, and a separate shower with molded seat and bi-fold door enclosure—offering true cruising comfort.

Opposite the head is the well-appointed galley, complete with a propane stove and oven, under-counter refrigerator, deep double stainless sinks, and extensive custom cabinetry designed for efficient storage of dishes, cookware, and provisions.

Ventilation and natural light are excellent throughout the cabin thanks to six opening ports, two large Bomar hatches with screens and zip in screens on the aft bulkhead. A diesel-fired Espar heater ensures the space stays warm and dry in cooler conditions. Two large, fiberglass-lined sole lockers provide clean, dry storage below. Gullywhumper also includes a Cruisair Air Conditioning system with two compressor units for the salon and cabin.

Moving up through the varnished teak companionway doors, you enter the bright and functional deckhouse. The fiberglass sole includes numerous hinged hatches for easy engine access. The helm is to starboard with a full suite of electronics, intuitive switch layout, and Ellis’s signature hydraulic pedestal seat with adjustable backrest. The mate’s seat to port mirrors the helm, positioned just forward of a beautiful varnished chart table. Aft, a U-shaped settee wraps around a varnished drop-leaf table—ideal for casual meals or entertaining.

The aft end of the deckhouse is enclosed by a half-height bulkhead with removable canvas and isinglass panels, offering an open-air feel when desired. All cushions are upholstered in blue Ultrasuede, and ventilation is exceptional, with opening windshields, screened side windows, and removable aft canvas for airflow throughout.

Up on the flybridge, three pedestal seats surround the central helm station, which is fully outfitted with electronics and engine controls. A wide bench seat aft provides additional lounging space. All flybridge seating and the helm console are protected with custom covers.

Galley

The U-shaped galley aboard is thoughtfully designed for both functionality and comfort at sea. Generous counter space surrounds the cook, with ample storage throughout for provisions and cookware. A Princess two-burner propane cooktop is centrally located for easy access, while a Norcold under-counter refrigerator with integrated freezer sits forward for efficient cold storage.

Aft, the double stainless sink is equipped with both a hot/cold pressure water faucet and a manual backup pump. Above the sink, a Sharp Grill 2 convection/microwave oven is neatly built into the aft bulkhead, maximizing utility without sacrificing space.

Storage is smartly integrated with a large countertop locker, a full-length cup and container locker overhead, four drawers, and two sliding-door cabinets—keeping everything organized and within reach.
