DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION
The DH 550 utilizes a powerful, easily handled rig, with a shoal draft keel and high bridgedeck clearance, to produce a boat designed for passage making.
Modern, wood/epoxy construction is utilized, to achieve superior stiffness, strength and impact resistance. Top quality Okoume plywood, and epoxy saturation is used in the hulls, with Western Red Cedar used in the stringers. Brazilian Mahogany is used in structural areas, because of its superior hardness and strength. There is also reinforcing fiberglass and Epoxy used in structural areas to beef up the high stress areas - resulting in a remarkably stiff and strong vessel.
