The Smithsunian is a 1989 49' DeFever Cockpit Motor Yacht. The 49 models are the 44 foot models with an infinitely usable 5 foot cockpit added at the factory.
The Smithsunian offers extremely efficient twin Ford Lehman 135 HP naturally aspirated main engines and is stabilized with Naiad Stabilizers.
Other features include a walk-in engine room, a Westerbeke 8 kW generator, a Magnum 2,800-watt inverter, an oil change system, a spacious sundeck and flybridge, a full-beam master stateroom, and a large full-length settee on the port side in the salon.

The DeFever 49 Cockpit MY (sometimes called the 44+5) is a DeFever 44 Trawler with a cockpit addition and extended rudders and shafts. She is not your typical sundeck trawler with an elevated cabintop over the aft stateroom. Instead, the 49 is a rare flush-deck yacht with single-level walkaround decks - an eminently practical design that results in an attractive profile as well as generally improved accessibility. The DeFever 49 is a heavy boat for her size and the semi-displacement hull is perfect for extended cruising in comfort and security. The 49s two-stateroom interior is arranged with the galley aft in the salon where its convenient to the aft deck. Helm visibility is excellent, and port and starboard doors forward in the salon provide easy access to the decks. The full-beam aft stateroom is huge with walkaround king bed, tremendous storage, and space for a washer/dryer. A great feature of the DeFever 49 is her walk-in engine room with its near-standing headroom. The sundeck hardtop will accommodate a davit and dinghy. Built on a solid fiberglass hull with a long prop-protecting keel, twin 135hp Perkins diesels cruise at 7-8 knots.
