OWN A PIECE OF HISTORY! The Winnie Mae began her life as a working girl on the Monongahela River in 1936. She was built by the Dravo Corporation at the Neville Island Shipyards in Pennsylvania. Dravo was one of the largest inland waterway shipyards in the United States and was the lead designer and builder for the landing ship tanks (LSTs) used in World War II. They launched more than 6,000 hulls including hopper, tank, deck barges, towboats, tugs, dredges, special-purpose vessels, and of course, the Winnie Mae.
The Winnie Mae was built for the Monongahela & Ohio Dredging Company, and was one of the first paddle wheelers to be powered by a diesel (instead of steam). Her original engine was a Fairbanks-Morse Model 36, 300 HP, 6 Cylinder Marine Diesel. Today, she has a Caterpillar D353E Marine Engine, originally designed for a cargo-transport ocean going vessel.
She has worn many hats in her lifetime - a working girl for a dredging company, pushing restaurant barges, and in her retirement, she has provided memories for many. She is currently a live-aboard, with all of the amenities you could ask for. Full kitchen with full size appliances, large pantry and large bar area for eating, full size separate washer & dryer, and a large living room and half-bath on the first floor. The second floor has two full baths and two bedrooms, and a covered built in bar area (with 2-built in commercial beer coolers) that can seat 14. The third floor has a large pilot house with helm, built in desk, and futon, with an additional open deck area.
