Designer
Mal Low was a seasoned naval architect and marine engineer with a lifetime of hands-on boatbuilding experience. Since building his first sloop at age eight, he constructed five personal power vessels ranging from 10 to 49 feet. His formal education includes a BSEE and MSME studies, with specialized naval architecture training under Ted Brewer.
Low's professional credentials include a USCG Master's License for Steam and Motor Vessels, a Commercial Diving Certification, and two U.S. patents for marine environmental systems. He is a member of SNAME, SBYD, and ABYC. His expertise spans diverse construction methods, including epoxy-ply, aluminum, and steel.
He specifically designed and operated a website SMALLTUGS for many years and his plans have been used by builders around the world
Daisy was based on his single chine 21' design and was extended by the current owner when he built her. This owner has a history of building his own "toys" after completing Two airplanes and flying for years. He decided it was time to conquer the sea. Hull construction is Brazilian water resistant plyboard encapsulated with multiple layers of fiberglass and extra layers of epoxy. All stringers or fully sealed and electrical and fluid arrangements reflect the precision of an aircraft builder.
