The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1985 CT (Cruising Trimaran) is a notable model that offers a range of features appealing to a variety of sailing enthusiasts. Here's a breakdown of the pros and cons associated with this vessel:

Pros

Stability and Performance: The tri-hull design provides exceptional stability on the water, making it less prone to capsizing and allowing for smoother sailing even in choppy conditions.

Speed: The lightweight construction and aerodynamic shape enable impressive speed, making it ideal for both cruising and racing scenarios.

Spacious Interior: The design typically includes a roomy interior, providing ample living space for extended voyages. The layout often features multiple cabins and areas for relaxation.

Versatility: Suitable for a range of sailing activities, from leisurely day sails to long-distance cruising, the CT performs well in varying conditions.

Easy Handling: Many users find the sail plan and rigging intuitive, allowing for more accessible handling, even for less experienced sailors.

Economical: The trimaran design often results in lower fuel consumption compared to traditional monohulls, which can be beneficial for long-term cruising.

Cons

Mooring Challenges: The wider beam of a trimaran can make finding suitable mooring spaces more difficult as they require more room.

Complex Storage and Maintenance: The unique design may complicate repairs or require specialized knowledge for maintenance, potentially increasing costs and time.

Wind Sensitivity: While stable, the lightweight structure can make the vessel more sensitive to strong winds, requiring careful handling during adverse weather.

Less Seaworthy in Extreme Conditions: Although the CT is stable, its performance can be compromised in severe weather, where more robust monohulls might excel.

Limited Headroom: Some models may have less standing headroom than traditional yachts, which can be a consideration for taller individuals.

Initial Cost: Depending on the condition and specific configuration, vintage models like the 1985 CT can sometimes be costly upfront, especially if upgraded or well-maintained.
