Corsair 42 By Gordon Jensen
The Corsair is the second generation of the famous Cruise A Home made in Everett WA.
Gordon Jensen is the son of the founder of Cruise A Home and redesigned and developed the Corsair 42 to contemporary standards in the early 1990's. The hull shape DNA stems from a Uniflite design developed in the 1970's and refined in the late 1980's by Corsair's in-house design team.
More than one yachtsman has been surprised to find a Corsair passing them in rough water. It is not unusual to find Corsair's cruising the San Juan's, BC Coast, Alaska and making the offshore run from the Columbia River to the Strait of Juan De Fuca.
Don't let the "House Boat" moniker disinform you, these are serious boats. There is a Charter Operator out of Anacortes, WA who uses a Corsair 42 hull that runs when everything else is tied to the dock, including the WA State Ferries! I have personally seen that boat in service in over 50 kts of wind operating in the Rosario Strait. Sometimes the designers just get it right, this is one of those boats.
This yacht was built to order by the original, current owners who took delivery in 1992 and used her for family cruising in Puget Sound to the North end of Vancouver Island. "Able Too" (her original name) has many adventures behind her and many more to be experienced.
She has an enclosed Fly Bridge and large sundeck on the cabin top. A warm, open salon and a "wash room", not a head. It rivals some hotel room facilities for size. "Able Too" was designed with mobility challenged person(s) in mind. There is a hidden electric operated wheel chair ramp from the aft deck into the salon and the aft cabin can be opened up to a large suite for persons needing more room in the Stateroom. The forward cabin has a V berth arrangement with private head.
The hull is molded fiberglass with Balsa Core, resulting in a lighter, stronger and quieter hull. The decks and superstructure are molded fiberglass, again with Balsa Core to save weight and increased strength. Her interior is old growth Teak, the joinery work is excellent with a teak parque cabin sole. The condition of the interior is Excellent. Fittings and furnishings are of high quality and all in excellent condition.
Power is supplied by twin Perkins 6 cylinder 240 HP diesels. Usual cruising speed is between 8-10 kts, she tops out at approximately 15 kts. Fuel burn at cruising speed is 6-7 GPH total. Engine Hours are 3341 and 3339 respectively.
A 5KW Onan generator is onboard for off the dock power and twin battery chargers are separated for house and start banks.
This yacht is an excellent choice for cruisers wanting "single deck" living, the flybridge is easily assessable by using a ladder on the aft deck.
If you are looking for a yacht with High Build Quality, Economical to run, Safety for crew and guests, and Comfortable, "Able Too" is worth a personal inspection.
She would make a fantastic liveaboard with single level living.
