Chesapeake Boats Inc. was founded in 1998 by David Mason, a local fisherman who decided to build his own boat designed to work the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Word got out that he was building a boat for himself, and before he completed his boat, someone made him an offer on it that he couldn't refuse.
