A Fantastic example of a classic
Sparkman & Stephens designed racer cruiser
This boat was designed as a racer by Sparkman & Stephens and was originally put into production and sold as the Yankee 38. One look at its sleek lines and round tumblehome and you can tell it's an S&S IOR design from the 1970s. Some years later, Catalina bought the molds and Frank Butler made several changes including replacing the flush deck with a cabin house to make the sailboat more appealing to a coastal cruising market. The racing and cruising heritage of these boats has lead a long and healthy life. The Catalina 38s have performed consistently in club races and done very well in PHRF races over the years.
"ARGO" has been upgraded, well maintained and constantly criused all-over Southern California, including a 10-day farwell cruise to Catalina Island during the month of July/2025!!

Forward is the V-berth with storage to port, starboard, and beneath the berth. Aft of the V-berth is the enclosed head, featuring a sink with vanity and shower capability. Across to starboard is a hanging locker and drawer storage. Continuing aft, the main salon includes a U-shaped dinette with a table that lowers to form a double berth. Opposite the dinette is a settee that sleeps one. Aft to port is the galley, equipped with pressure water, double stainless steel sinks, a two-burner range with oven, a large refrigeration box, generous counter space, and ample storage. Opposite the galley to starboard is the navigation station with electrical panel and additional storage. Further aft to starboard is a spacious quarter berth that accommodates two. Cons
Older Design: As a boat designed and built in the early 1980s, some aspects of its design and equipment may feel dated compared to modern sailboats, potentially requiring updates or upgrades.
Weight: The boat is relatively heavy for its size, which can impact light wind performance and may require more effort to handle in certain conditions.
