1987 Catalina 25' - Vintage Charm with Modern Upgrades
The 1987 Catalina 25' with it's traditional interior is designed to provide the comfort, style, and performance of a much larger boat. This is one of Catalina most popular designs. It has a very roomy cabin for its size. The Catalina has a long water line and swing keel. Designed by Frank V. Butler, the Catalina 25' was produced from 1978 to 1994. Also, the Catalina 25 was one of the most successful and longest running production sailboats ever built, and continues to have a strong following. This is a nice starter boat for someone new to sailing and is also great for day trips. Additionally, Catalina is known for being an older line of sailboats that still makes parts for it's earlier models. The Biggest Pros and Cons
The 1987 Catalina 25 is a popular trailerable sailboat known for its blend of comfort, performance, and ease of handling. Here are some of the key pros and cons to consider:
Pros
Comfortable Interior: The Catalina 25 offers a spacious cabin for its size, with sleeping accommodations for up to five people, a functional galley, and a head compartment, making it suitable for weekend cruising.
Trailerable Design: Its relatively light displacement and swing keel option make it easy to trailer and launch, providing flexibility for exploring a variety of sailing locations.
Stable and Predictable Handling: The boat is known for its stability and forgiving sailing characteristics, which make it a great choice for beginners and casual sailors.
Good Performance: While not a racing boat, the Catalina 25 offers respectable sailing performance with a well-balanced rig and efficient hull design.
Strong Community and Support: Being a popular model, there is a large owner community and good availability of parts and aftermarket support.
Cons
Limited Headroom: Although the interior is comfortable for its size, the cabin headroom is somewhat limited, which may feel cramped for taller individuals.
Swing Keel Maintenance: Models with the swing keel require regular maintenance to ensure the lifting mechanism functions properly and to prevent corrosion or damage.
Basic Amenities: Compared to larger cruisers, the Catalina 25 has modest onboard amenities, which may not satisfy sailors looking for extensive onboard features or luxury.
Performance in Heavy Weather: While stable, the boat’s lighter displacement and size can make it less comfortable in very rough or heavy weather conditions.
Older Design: As a 1987 model, some aspects of the design and materials may feel dated compared to more modern sailboats.
