Additional Information

Construction

The hull and deck are constructed of Isophthalic acid resin and tri-axial knitted

fiberglass fabric. The skinning layer is 100% vinylester. Above the water line, the hulls

and deck are cored with ¾” Corecell foam, except for hardware attachment points. All

coring is vacuum bagged to ensure 100% adhesion. Below the waterline, hulls are

made of solid fiberglass. There are two forward watertight compartments, one inside

each bow locker, as well as four watertight bulkheads, two forward and two aft.

Standard fin keels have a sacrificial section allowing for substantial damage to keels

without affecting hull integrity. Hull color is white.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 2007 Antares PDQ 44 is a popular power catamaran known for its spacious design and fuel efficiency. Here are some of its pros and cons:

Pros

Spacious and comfortable layout: The catamaran design offers ample living space, including multiple cabins and large saloon areas, making it ideal for extended cruising or liveaboard.

Fuel efficiency: The twin-hull design reduces drag, resulting in better fuel economy compared to traditional monohull powerboats of similar size.

Stable ride: The wide beam and catamaran hull provide excellent stability, reducing rolling and improving comfort underway and at anchor.

Shallow draft: Allows access to shallower waters and more anchorages that deeper keel boats cannot reach.

Good visibility: Elevated helm stations and large windows provide excellent all-around visibility for the captain.

Versatile usage: Suitable for coastal cruising, island hopping, and longer passages with comfortable accommodations.

Cons

Initial cost: The Antares PDQ 44 can be more expensive to purchase compared to comparable monohull powerboats.

Docking space: The wide beam requires more marina space and can make docking in tight slips more challenging.

Maintenance: Twin engines and systems on both hulls can mean higher maintenance costs and complexity.

Performance: While fuel-efficient, the boat is not designed for high-speed performance; it’s better suited to cruising speeds.

Availability of parts: Depending on location, sourcing specific parts or service expertise for PDQ catamarans can sometimes be limited.

Made For
