The Biggest Pros and Cons
The 1995 Mares 58 Power Cat offers a unique blend of performance and comfort, making it a popular choice for power catamaran enthusiasts. Here are some of the key pros and cons of this model:
Pros
Spacious Layout: The wide beam and twin hull design provide ample deck and cabin space, enhancing comfort for extended cruises.
Stability: The catamaran hulls offer excellent stability both at anchor and underway, reducing roll and providing a smoother ride.
Fuel Efficiency: Compared to monohull powerboats of similar size, the Mares 58 Power Cat typically delivers better fuel economy due to reduced drag.
Shallow Draft: The shallow draft allows access to coastal areas and anchorages that deeper keel boats cannot reach.
Solid Construction: Built in 1995, this model is known for its robust construction and durable materials, contributing to longevity and resale value.
Cons
Age-Related Maintenance: As a vessel from 1995, it may require ongoing maintenance and updates to systems such as electronics, engines, and interior fittings.
Limited Speed: While efficient, power catamarans generally do not achieve the same top speeds as comparable monohull powerboats.
Handling in Rough Seas: Although stable, the flat hull design can lead to a firmer ride in very choppy or rough ocean conditions.
Availability of Parts: Some specific parts or components might be harder to find due to the boat's age and model.
Initial Cost: The larger size and complexity of power catamarans can result in higher initial purchase prices and dockage fees compared to smaller monohulls.
