Accommodations
Below decks 6 foot, 6 inch headroom and long berths are another benefit of a Hood design.
Starting forward is a spacious V-berth stateroom. There is filler for the berth. Cane front lockers are outboard and above. There is a large hanging locker and drawer storage. Access to the forward head is from this stateroom or the salon.
The guest head has a sink, Electra San head and shower. Moving aft the salon has a large mahogany drop leaf table and an L-shaped settee to port. This converts to a double berth. Bookshelves and cane-doored lockers are outboard. There is storage under the seats and behind the seat backs through hinged drop panels.
To starboard in the main salon is a custom Paul Luke soapstone and brass fireplace. A straight settee is to starboard with storage outboard in cane lockers with additional storage under this settee. There is storage under the seats and behind the seat backs through hinged drop panels. Also storage drawers are under the fireplace.
The navigation area is at the bottom of the companionway to port. The navigation station faces aft with the Bass electric panels in easy reach, clock and barometer, battery switches and electronics. There is a comfortable seat for working and a spacious chart table for navigating.
Additionally, the navigation station has circuit breakers for the bow thruster, windlass and has an engine starter switch and preheat button plus a battery parallel button outboard. There is a book case plus storage through a drop panel. There are two drawers under the navigator's seat.
The galley is in the walkway to starboard. The galley has ample counter space, a custom refrigerator and freezer; 3-burner, gimballed Shipmate LPG stove with oven, deep, double stainless steel sinks and plenty of storage outboard and in drawers. Fiddles keep food and equipment in place. This galley is in a comfortable location for food preparation in a seaway. It leads aft to the owner�s cabin. The galley has a hand operated back up fresh water pump. There is a custom locker outboard with shelf for dish storage. Two drawers for silverware and outboard storage underneath through a drop panel.
The owners cabin has two large berths with a hanging locker and lots of drawer storage. The owner�s head has a Vacuflush toilet, shower and sink with 20 gallon holding tank. There is engine access through aft head.
Engine access is through a door in this aft cabin or from under the galley sinks. Nine opening ports, 4 fixed ports, 6 hatches and 4 dorades provide excellent light and ventilation. Joinerwork is varnished mahogany with honey colored caning on the lockers. Teak and holly cabin sole is varnished.
Main salon cushions were new in 1997. Sand colored Ultrasuede cushions in the salon with complimentary fabric on the stateroom berths. The staterooms were reupholstered in 2004. Curtains on all ports. Brass oil lamps in each cabin.
The interior of HERO is warm and inviting with lots of light and ventilation.
