Brokerââ?¬â?¢s comments: ââ?¬Å?Boatââ?¬ï¿½ has been on the local sailing scene piling up the hardware since it first arrived. The 38-1 was designed to race and cruise. Like others of its time, it has a large foretriangle and a small mainsail. This allows the boat to compete going to weather. With the roller furling, it can easily be handled by 2 people. Trimming the main is easy with the multiple block system which goes to the traveler on the bridge deck; thereââ?¬â?¢s a winch but itââ?¬â?¢s not really needed due to the tackle arrangement. There are 4 large primaries in the cockpit. The tapered aluminum mast (painted), with double spreaders, internal halyards and SS ROD rigging were all replaced by Hall spars in 1998. Itââ?¬â?¢s been fresh water sailed since new. The boom, hydraulic baby stay, backstay and boom vang are original. The spinnaker pole was replaced by a carbon fiber pole. The boat was successfully raced on Lakes Erie and Ontario until 2003 when the ownerââ?¬â?¢s son purchased a larger faster boat. Since then the owner just day sailed and took out students for sail training. The sail inventory includes; (2) #1ââ?¬â?¢s (1) #2,(1) #3 and .5, .75 and 2.2 oz spinnakers and some older sails. It also has a tall boy stay-sail, and storm jib. Sails are from North, UK and Hood. ââ?¬Å?Boat ââ?¬Å?has been donated to a local maritime foundation and offers a fantastic opportunity for someone looking for a large racer/cruiser on a budget. There are 2 surveys show it to be structurally sound with higher moisture in the decks, typical `for a boat of this age and appraised valued at $20,000. It will require new batteries. The boat also comes with a full winter cover and steel storage cradle.
