Deck
The deck is a hand-laid, balsa-cored laminate with a non-skid pattern molded into all horizontal surfaces. In high-stress areas, such as beneath mooring cleats and winches, the balsa core is replaced with reinforcements of solid fiberglass.
The Tartan’s deck lands on an inward flange on the hull. This lap joint is bedded with butyl rubber. Beneath it is a ¼-inch aluminum backing plate through which the joint, along with the slotted aluminum toe rail, is bolted every 4” with 1/4 inch S/S bolts.
Wide side decks, shrouds attached to inboard chain-plates, and the absence of foredeck anchor locker allow reasonably unobstructed movement on deck. The coach-roof features 8 - 5 x 15 opening ports with screens, a molded sea hood and 2 pairs of teak grab-rails. Just forward is 19” square opening hatch w/aluminum frame.
HullIn the hull, a molded liner or pan forms an integrated floor timber structure that provides strength and rigidity. There is also an overhead liner. In the salon, this liner has removable panels with teak battens that hide the seams.
Slotted aluminum toe-rails run the full length of the boat and terminate at hefty mooring cleats forward and aft. The boats perimeter is secured by double-rail bow and stern pulpits and thru-bolted stanchions supporting 3/8” vinyl-coated lifelines. The Tartan’s modified T-shaped cockpit is 7 feet long. She features a pedestal with a 28” wheel. Cockpit table and drink holders. The coamings are reasonably high and along with the seat bottoms, are properly sloped and comfortable. Beneath the port seat is a cavernous sail locker and further aft is the panel and controls for the engine. Self-tailing primary winches are within reach of the helm for easy short-handed sailing. "Liberty" features aftermarket stern-rail seats and padded stern rails for comfort. New cockpit cushions are also included.
Belowdecks"Liberty"’s all teak interior and cabinet joinery is impressive and shows how well her owners kept her.
With its insert in place the V-berth forms a comfortable double complete with fitted sheets & bedding. Beneath it is stowage and a 16 gallon holding tank. Following aft is a hanging locker with a bureau to port and head compartment to starboard. A louvered door enclosed the locker: a solid wooden door creates privacy in the head and doubles as the v-berth door. The head is fitted with a marine toilet, a counter molded sink, shower, pressurized hot & coldwater, and even "Liberty" towels. There is ample storage.
In the salon, opposing settees face a bulkhead-mounted drop-leaf table. Next to the table a Sharp Flat-screen TV is mounted to the bulkhead. The shorter settee, while designed mainly for seating can double as a child’s berth. Sliding out the lower portion of the starboard settee converts it to a double. Over the port settee is a bookshelf and fold-down nav station. Additional storage is above the starboard settee.
The U-shaped galley is aft to port. It features a new Isotherm Refrigerator w/freezer, an Origo 2 burner alcohol range and 2 burner GE electric range. There is a S/S sink ample counter space and storage. Opposite the galley there is a Kenmore Convection Microwave. Included are acrylic glassware, silverware, pots and pans, Sunbeam coffee maker, waffle maker, toaster and even a George Forman Grill.
Aft on the starboard side is a large quarter-berth with storage below and an owner installed hanging rod for clothes. Removing the berth’s inboard panel gives access to the prop shaft and packing box.
The cabin sole is varnished teak and holley, and all the woodwork is finished in hand rubbed oil. This includes the 2 pairs of teak handrails mounted at shoulder deck height. Headroom is a comfortable 6’ 1.”
All the upholstery is new this season. Two electric cabin heaters are included.
