1982 45’ Northwind Aft cabin with cockpit

This vessel is a 1982 Northwind, built in Bellingham WA. Northwind boats were built on Uniflite molds. Sitting alongside similar Uniflites, the only noticeable difference is the window design. The hulls, just like Uniflite, are very stout.

This boat was owned by a German company and kept in Vancouver Canada. There was apparently a recall on the engines, but the recall didn’t make it to these shores, they had the engines changed out with Volvo TAMD61A engines in 1996. These engines now have about 900 hrs on them. The marine gears are Twin Disc with 1.97: 1 ratios, turning 2” shafts mounted with 27 x 22 NiBrAl Dyna Jet 3 blade props (there is also a spare set of 4 blade props that go with it). The engines have ran regularly with no problems. There are 2 fuel tanks, 350 gallons aft and 100 gallons forward. Fuel is delivered through either 900 or 1000 Racor filters plumbed to each engine - filters can be swapped on the fly by opening and closing ball valves and there is a fuel pump inline for priming if needed.

The boat is set up for 110v shore power, but is equipped with an Onan 8kw genset that has also ran frequently, since the stove doesn’t run off the Trace 2500w inverter. Other than the stove you can be gone from the dock (or have a power outage) for a few days before realizing the power is out. The house bank of batteries (4- 6v L16) is separate from the starting batteries (8D), each engine and the genset have their own battery. All the appliances work, in the picture you may note the induction stove sitting on top of the 3 burner Princess, the induction just cooks faster. Cabin heat is provided by a Webasto 2015 hydronic 50000 btu boiler, it keeps the inside as warm as you set the thermostat, even at 0 degrees with an 80 mph wind There is actually a spare boiler.

All of the plumbing is done with PEX tubing, the water tanks are aluminum, 250 gallons, 125 outboard of each engine. There is a 12 gallon water heater, 110v or Port engine provides the heat. There are 2 Heads and 2 showers. The aft head is a Raritan Atlantis, the forward a Tecma.  Each head is hooked to a Purasan type II MSD.  The VacuFlush as a grey water pump, works great.

For electronics there is Furuno 16 mile radar and a Furuno VX2 Navnet plotter/depth sounder with a Simrad auto pilot as well as an Interphase forward sonar. The radio is an Icom M604 on the Fly bridge with a Commander mic in the main cabin. There is also an old Sea Lab 7800 in the cabin as back up. there is also a pair of Flow Scans that go with the boat, not installed

Ground tackle consists of a 12 VDC Gypsy and Capstan with a 44lb Delta anchor and 195’ of 5/16 HT chain, there is a 25lb Fortress with 30’ of chain and 200’ of line for back-up.

The boat is fiberglass on the outside with teak interior. The only wood on the outside is under the covered back deck on the cabinets. The fly bridge has an aluminum top house. The fly bridge and aft deck has new commercial grade PVC carpet.

The boat is 45’ long with a 14’ beam, 5’ draft and 23tons. Cruise speed is 15kts, tops out at 19kts. Burns 1 to 1.2 gallons an hour at cruise.

The 9.5’ Caribe RIB and 8hp Honda outboard are also included.
