From The Builder
Built By Sabre Yachts, South Casco Maine
Designer: Jim Taylor
Ã?Â
The twelve year collaboration between the Sabre Design Team and Jim Taylor Yacht Design has proven to be very fruitful: all three of the previous designs, the Sabre 362, Sabre 402 and Sabre 452, have won Cruising World Magazines Boat Of The Year awards. This partnership has now created the new Sabre 426. The Sabre 426 is a moderate displacement cruising yacht with the performance attributes of lighter boats, yet offering considerably more comfort and on-board amenities. Like her older siblings, she offers a near perfect blend of traditional style and outstanding performance. The story of the new Sabre 426 is one of heritage mixed with such modern construction and design as the use of vacuum bagged Divinycell PVC closed cell foam core and structural E glass, one of the strongest, lightest and most durable laminate combinations available today. But while modern technology will be hidden below the surface, the traditional Sabre details, as well as some new hallmarks, will be there for all to enjoy and admire. Thoughtful and elegant details that make each Sabre design a secure and beautiful sailing yacht, and a joy to own.
The U-shaped galley is both functional and conveniently located at the base of the companionway, within easy reach of the cockpit. Large ice boxes are found aft where the most volume is available in the hull shape, and a front opening door provides
convenient access to the items in the bottom of the refrigerator.
Stainless steel sinks are situated on the forward arm of the galley, as close as
possible to the yachtâs centerline. A convenient under-counter
dish locker is located outboard and three large lockers are provided for dry goods. Many drawers are available for utensils and cookware.
Nowhere is the study of old and new elements more evide nt than in the main salon of the Sabre 426. The bulkhead-mounted table, a long time S abre ownerâs favorite, is back, allowing for an open and airy salon. For entertaining, or for simply relaxing
at the end of an exciting day on the water, the two L-shaped settees offer
comfortable seating spaces for all of your family and friends.
Storage is plentiful both above and outboard of the settees. New Sabre
wood working details found aboard the 426 are sure to please the most discriminating buyer.
The ownerâs cabin aboard the Sabre 426 is forward, where ventilation and sleeping comfort are the best. This queen sized berth is surrounded by many drawers and lockers for storage of personal gear. The hanging locker is cedar lined.
Her head compartment with ceramic tiled sole and shower stall, is well equipped, functional and easy to clean.
Hose runs from the WC to the holding tank are as short as possible so as to minimize head odors.
The aft cabin is spacious and airy. An overhead hatch offers excellent ventilation,
as well as connecting the cockpit crew to those below. A convenient vanity and
sink are found at the entrance to the cabin, and many drawers and lockers are
provided for stowage of personal effects.
Sailing the Sabre 426 is an exhilarating experience. Her well balanced sail plan, working in concert with state of the art keel and rudder designs, makes her glide through the water with ease.
The lightest breezes will give her plenty to go on, and when the wind increases, the speeds and control are a sailorâs delight. This design, like all
others in the Sabre/Jim Taylor range, makes for a very well mannered yacht,
handled with ease yet providing an amazing amount of satisfaction and feedback to the
experienced sailor.
The Sabre 426 is not another underpowered cruising boat, but rather a high spirited, yet easily managed thoroughbred yacht.
AccommodationsThe interior is American cherry with a satin varnish, including bulkheads and furniture, with a teak an holly sole. All hanging lockers are cedar-lined, with cedar ceiling strips and white headliners overhead. The generous headroom measures 6'6" in the main salon and aft areas, and 6'4" in the forward cabin.
Starting forward, there is a spacious, bright master stateroom with a centerline queen berth surrounded by many drawers and lockers. Immediately aft is the large head with a separate shower stall. The head features a Raritan electric flush toilet (fresh water or sea water flush). The holding tank has an electric macerator pump. The queen berth has custom mattress pad, sheets, and bed spread.
The full beam salon feels exceptionally open and airy when the bulkead-mounted table is up. When down, the table accommodates 8 guests comfortably. Two L-shaped settees, upholstered in Brisa Ultra-leather, offer comfortable seating spaces. The porside settee converts to a double berth if needed for extra guests. Storage is plentiful both above and outboard of the settees.
Aft of the salon to starboard is the U-shaped galley and opposite is the foward facing nav station. Above the nav station are two large panels for the breakers and flush-mounted electronics. Drawers below the nav station inclulde the fully-equipped custom SABRE tool drawer.
Behind the nav station to port is the entrance to the aft guest stateroom. This cabin features a full queen berth and many drawers and lockers for stowage, and custom mattress pad, sheets, and bedspread.
