Cantius Walk through
Cruisers built the 48 Cantius for “volume”. By comparison to today’s market for 48-51 foot boats available, she is a “Big 48.” This becomes apparent as you approach her from the dock. Upon further inspection, we learn this is one of the reasons the boat offers such excellent head room in addition to creature comforts. The hydraulic swim platform is large and offers ample room for a tender. While standing on the swim platform, with the push of a button, the aft bench seat hinges forward to reveal a large storage transom box for storing a large amount of your gear! The cockpit can be accessed from both the port and starboard steps, a feature uncommon on a boat this size. Port and starboard access becomes convenient when docking or enjoying an afternoon of playing in the water via the hydraulic swim platform (these steps tend to become “built-in stadium seating” while watching your treasured guests splash in the water). In the cockpit, there is a U-shaped seat and a table with a solid surface insert. The table is retractable so that the cockpit seat can convert into a sun pad area, perfect for when you want to enjoy the sun. There is nice floor space in cockpit allowing for plenty of room for extra chairs. In the sole of the cockpit, you will find a large engine hatch. To the port side of the cockpit, there is a cockpit grill made by Kuuma and a refrigerator made by Vitro Frigo. To the starboard side, there is a cockpit icemaker and a storage side locker. Access to the bow area is gained via steps on both the port and starboard. The side deck passages are wider than most boats in its class to facilitate safe passage.
Moving forward from the cockpit, you notice the large sliding glass door. This door will slide all the way to port allowing the cockpit and Upper Salon (note: this area may also be referred to as the “Sunroom” or “Loft”) to become one space. Stepping into the Loft, one immediately notices the “Wenge” wood package. The interior really pops on this boat! It is a brilliant combination of space and elegant contemporary design. The cabinetry offers great lowert storage and a pop-up 32” Samsung TV to the STBD side aft. This room is heated and cooled by 2 separate conditioning units. To the port side aft, is open counter space where the AM/FM Sony radio is housed with a AUX input jack for your iPod or mp3 player. The EPIRB is also mounted in the aft starboard corner. The L-shaped lounger/dinette to the forward starboard side can serve many purposes including: a wonderful air conditioned place to dine while still enjoying the panoramic views found at your favorite anchorage, a chart table for planning, a comfortable nook to read a book, or a wonderful place for you and your favorites to enjoy a conversation. This area also offers excellent visibility while underway! Across from the lounger is the double captain’s chair. The helm is very well laid out ergonomically and visibility is excellent. Head room at the helm is great. Overall, the upper salon is a dynamic space for running the boat, enjoying meals, hanging out, and remains aesthetically pleasing while still being very comfortable.
One of the other noticeable design features Cruisers Yacht incorporated into the Cantius is the atrium. Created to connect the upper and lower salon, the atrium removes the “cave-like” design of earlier vintage express cruisers. The atrium allows natural light from the forward windshield and sunroom to pour into the lower salon. The openess creates tons of head room and allows for communication between the captain and crew while underway when a trip below deck is needed. Two large windows, one to the port and the other to the STBD, allow even more natural light into the atrium, making this space yet another great place to relax. To STBD of the steps is an L-shaped sofa made by Flexsteel which converts to a magic bed. There is storage in the aft section of the L-shaped lounger, as well as overhead cabinets with storage. To the port side is the galley. Forward is a double stainless steel sink with cabinet space above and below providing a good amount of galley storage for a 48’ boat. The galley also features a Vitro Frigo refrigerator/freezer and a 32” Samsung TV.
The entry to the master stateroom is in the aft port corner of the lower salon. When you walk through the door, immediately you notice the centerline master bed (with upgraded memory foam mattress). To the left of the cabin entry is a combo washer/dryer. Just aft of the combo washer/dryer is a vanity with sink and tons of storage, designed so that the sink can be used without entering the shower or head space. The head is in the far aft port corner of the master stateroom. The shower area is large with dedicated storage lockers. The stateroom has an oversized window for natural light, a full-length storage locker in the forward STBD corner, and storage cabinets that line the STBD side. The LED lights add a nice accent to the room. On the forward bulk head, there is a mirror, an upgraded 32” Samsung TV and 2 drawers that also offer very nice storage. This mid-master stateroom is sought after for good reason!
Forward centerline of the salon, you will find the entry into the VIP stateroom. In this stateroom, there is a large centerline berth (with upgraded memory foam mattress), 3 built-in drawers below the berth, and hanging lockers to the port and STBD sides. A Sony TV is mounted on the port side of the stateroom. To the STBD side aft is the head. The shower to the port in this stateroom is actually the largest shower on the boat. This stateroom is well laid out offering very comfortable accommodations for your most treasured guests!
As mentioned earlier, the engine room on this boat is accessed via a hatch in the center of the cockpit. The head room and movability/access to this area is outstanding, again not common in this class. It appears access is good all the way around boat engines, making routine checks easy!
The bow can be accessed via the port or STBD gunnels. The gunnels are wide and trimmed with safety rails. On this boat, there are air horns on the bow. There is also a forward sun pad with cup holders and seat backrest brackets to enjoy your cruise.
