Saga Yachts Information
Saga Sailboats: Saga Yachts was originally established in Canada in 1995. They opened their doors with an original boat design aimed at serious cruising sailors and experienced shorthanded cruising couples. The first Saga 43 designed by Robert H. Perry was based on many lessons learned while sailing the single-handed open class ocean racers of the decade before. Performance, comfort offshore, safety and easy handling were the clear advantages of the design.
The Saga 43 set a new standard for performance cruising boats. It featured a long waterline, moderate displacement, large easy-to handle rig, and a beam that would be considered narrow by today's standards. With the advent of the Saga 43, sailors were able to obtain a higher level of speed and performance - levels which were not achievable by the heavier traditional cruisers of the day. The Saga 43 also offered luxury accommodations sucah as a large galley and a package of “live-aboard cruising systems” demanded by modern cruisers who were not willing to rough it.
Saga owners began establishing an impressive record in the major long distance cruising rallies and ocean races. They racked up podium finishes in the Single-handed Trans-Pac (San Francisco-Hawaii), several Caribbean 1500 finishes, and overall line honors in the Trans-ARC rally (Trans-Atlantic). In 2005 there were more Sagas owners participating in the Caribbean 1500 than any other brand.
At any time, Saga yachts can be seen in exotic cruising destinations all over the world. Saga owners undoubtedly get the most out of their yachts and a consistently high percentage of owners are actually “out there” living the dream.
