Leopard Yachts is an Italian yacht brand created by the Picchiotti family back in the 1970's. The first Leopard yacht built in 1973 was made entirely of wood. It was the first in a long list of wooden Leopard yachts that were built until 1984 when the first composite construction yacht was launched.

The boat building heritage of the Picchiotti family dates back to the 1600's. In 1907, the company Giuseppe Picchiotti & Sons was founded and later, in 1935, was renamed Cantiere Navale Arno - still owned and run by the Picchiotti family.

Cantiere Navale Arno and the Picchiotti Shipyard filled a huge demand for boats from the Italian ministries and other foreign governments. During wartime, they also built many boats for the Royal Military Navy and the MAS BP. Near the end of the war, the shipyard was burned by the German Army resulting in total loss.

The Picchiotti family eventually rebuilt and with the carpentry experience gained during the rebuilding of the shipyard, they built and launched many famous and successful motor yachts including Giglio, Gorgona, Tiger and Lupo di Mare.

In 1960, the shipyard began working with designer Paolo Caliari, and increased the number of yachts built and sold by advancing the process with the use of fiberglass.

Leopard yachts is still owned and run by the Picchiotti family today by their 4th and 5th generation of experts. Leopard yachts are steeped in tradition and centuries of knowledge and the company has grown into one of the most innovative players in the yachting industry.
