are very few small inboard fishing boats being built the past 10 years
or so, so the introduction of the Luhrs 28 Open came as good news for
off shore anglers who prefer the reliability of inboard power. With her
handsome lines and expansive cockpit, the 28 offers an impressive mix of
fishing and family-friendly features. For openers, a broad 11-foot,
6-inch beam makes this a big 28-footer allowing the well-appointed
interior to provide the comfort and versatility of a somewhat larger
boat. Seat backrests convert to pipe berths to accommodate a crew of
four, and overhead racks can store up to eight rods. The full-featured
cockpit of the 28 Open comes equipped with a transom fish box, insulated
live well to port, and bait-prep center with cutting boards and tackle
drawers. The bridge deck lifts for access to electrical panel, fuel
tanks, and engines. The 28 Open delivers a top speed of about 28
knots with optional four-cylinder 240 hp Yanmar diesels. With 300 gal of

wide 11'6" beam and a versatile deck layout—heavily built, well
styled, and affordably priced. Just a handful of inboard express
boats in this size range have been developed in recent years, and
the sales success of the 28 Open proved yet again that a market
for such boats truly exists. Standard features include an insulated
transom fish box, standup livewell, fresh/raw-water washdowns,
cockpit bolsters, bait-prep center with cutting board, tackle drawers, fresh/raw-water washdowns, tilt-out helm, cabin rod storage, molded bow pulpit, swim platform, and trim tabs. The bridgedeck floor lifts for engine access, and the dash is large enough to accommodatetwo 15-inch video screens.
